I simply take mine off and throw them in 1/2 of a cut 55 gallon plastic drum.

I hang them on a hook on the wall inside the barn. Keeps them high, clean and dry and stops them from getting tangled up. Easy to find too.

I drag them back to the heavy wooden crate they originally came in, put the 150 lb. suckers in as neatly as I can and forget about them till next season.

I shake the dirt off and put them in the boxes that they came in....dry. Since i don't have a barn or decent sized shed, I set a box on a dolly to take them down stairs for storage in the basement...off the floor. They are heavy as you all know and it ain't no fun dealing with them each season, but I can still do it. Yet, when the ice and snow flies, I'm glad to have them.

"This has worked well for the first forty-seven years of their life but may be detrimental in the long term."

HARR!!

I hang mine up off the floor on foot long nails 1/2'' thick driven into the 4x6 support posts. The chains are at least 100 LBs apiece so using the front loader seems like a better idea for hanging them. I usually power wash the mud off of them. At this rate they should last a few hundred years
