How do you wash your tractor??

Dave, Maybe you can still get that thick diamond plate clear plastic they used to cover furniture with back in the 60's. You can encase your fleet in that stuff and save alot of time. Just kidding you, I wish I had your "clean" ethic.

Yea, some days my "gotta keep it like new" attitude gets a bit time consuming. Im just one of those folks who cant stand driving something thats not clean.....besides.....they run better when they're clean you know

If I'm working and it starts to rain, it gets washed until I drive it into the barn.

I've got a 42 year old tractor.. I'm afraid if I wash it I might wash away something it needs.

Definitely shouldn't use a pressure washer on a chicken. I take mine to the car wash.

given that I coat the thing in mud daily, I let the rain wash it off. I bought it to use to my mind.

If it happens to end up next to a hose while I'm using it, I'll hose it.

Not big on washing cars either. Paint on my 95 Montero still looks really good. Never been garaged, hardly ever been washed. Amazing how good coatings are these days.

preventive maintenance, on the other hand, I'm pretty big on. And if I were looking to sell/trade in, I'd wash and wax etc - people no doubt look at the shiny and pay extra. But my general thought is that I'll own em till I or they drop...

I wash mine; pressure washer and dishsoap with spunge. Then I put on my cleanest dirty shirt and take it for a drive

My wife has washed a chicken. Kids raised them as pets and over the winter a few had dried blood on them from frostbite on their combs; apparently they struggle a lot but once they are in the tub they settle right down. Don't think I would try it with an old barnyard rooster though!

I did a full 200 hour service on my L3400 last weekend. That is a good time for a good hose down. Lets you inspect the machine better and keep a bit cleaner while servicing. I suppose it will get another good cleaning at 400 Hrs.

I was told my tractor was washed at the Kioti factory, before being shipped for delivery to my dealer.
Then I dropped a huge stump/stalk on the hood and crushed it beyond recognition. Since then I haven't even bothered to clean off all the dirt and small rocks from the mud that was on the stump when it hit the hood.
I'm with the guy who talked about being in the 'home' thinking I wished I'd waxed whatever one last time....
It does sometimes concern me that if I might miss something leaking or whatever so I am extra vigilant about making sure nothing is leaking before I go out to battle yet another stump monster- and possibly loose.

AND one needs to think about all the 'potentially' wasted time one spends washing and waxing when time is ALL we have anyway, and the 'extra money' at resale can't be taken with you either: is the time spent taken into account in terms of the 'extra' money 'gained'- I for one don't think so. Its like the laws of energy. One spends time and energy washing/ waxing and gets back money he wouldn't otherwise have. Is it enough compensation for the time spent? Some may say yes, others may say no.

To bad about your hood; I christened mine with a huge snow ball that rolled back smashing my grill out (making the kids a bigger snowman). I made a guard for it.

Time spent doing something is not necessarily time wasted. My dad "wastes time" carving his own axe handles but it is a matter of pride. You cannot buy a better handle. Washing your tractor has to make you feel better about your equipment; neighbors, customers, etc will know you take pride in what you do if your machine looks good. It would make the difference between someone thinking "nice machine!" and "he really should take better care of it". I don't think I will ever wax mine though.

Have you ever noticed how you make time for stuff that is important to you? Many here feel like it is a total waste of time to clean their equipment while others are obsessed with keeping their stuff ultra clean. Nothing wrong with either one, each person feels a bit different about their stuff. The guy that doesn't clean his stuff, maybe he gets that much more stuff done. (maybe not) The guy that cleans his stuff, well he just made a choice to use his time to do just that, clean.

Each to his own, neither is wrong, but others do look at you differently depending on the choices you make throughout your life.

Just my opinion, others will vary.
