How does a NOCO battery charger "desulfate" the battery?

I have 1, 3 and 5 amp NOCO battery chargers and on the 3 and 5 amp do not fully understand how the desulfate function works. Can anyone explain how this functions and if it auto-engages or I have to set some special way? The 1 amp does not have a desulfate mode.

I have one and has kept the dual batteries in my Dodge diesel going for 5 years. Batteries are from NAPA.

yeah it like a recover or repair mode (same thing)... the 1 amp doesn't have it because its insufficient amps for it... you would used the desulfate mode when a battery is flat dead.

I'm not sure how they do it but it works for me. I have a Noco 10 amp with desulfator connected to my Genie aerial lift which is used as an elevator. The OEM battery costs over $500. When it finally died, I switched to a $125 NAPA deep cycle battery with a one year warranty. So far, It's lasted 6 years with the Noco.

Every battery charger desulfates. It is how the acid is restored. Some have a pulse charging cycle that supposedly knocks off hard sulfation from the plates. Most independent studies have shown little benefit to such modes. Hard sulfation does not readily recombine and just ends up as dregs at the bottom of the battery.

I don't know technically how any of the desulfate cycles work. If anyone knows, I'd love to hear how it works.

Apparently some desulfators are different than others. For the last 15 years we've used BatteryMINDer type chargers just because they were the first I saw with a desulfate cycle & because it has worked for us.
Plus the charger has an optional high amp output powerful enough to charge a large 12 volt overnight. On our place we maintain about 18 large AGM batteries plus some spares, and replace two or three per year.

BatteryMINDer claims that they originated the desulfate cycle and that theirs is different enough to rate a patent. Whether that is true or not I have no idea. I've not looked up their patent and studied it so have no real knowledge what it does.

I do know from experience that if a battery is clear flat, it needs at least some charge from an old style "dumb" charger before the BatteryMINDer will take over and desulfate/charge it. But once it does, some of the "dead" batteries will actually charge up and hold a charge - so their desulfate must be doing something useful.

I just presumed the one amp didn't have desulfate but I guess it does.
