How Dry I Am

Yep! I even got a little rain in Sunset...enough to settle the dust on my road. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I also heard on the news that another construction crew got caught in a downburst/microburst while taking refuge in a partially built house. At least one of them died when the structure collapsed. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif When are these kinds of accidents going to end? It's all really sad. These summer storms can do some surprising things even without tornadoes or lightning being the culprits.

The car and truck havn't been in the yard in over a month we leave them out in the begining of the driveway, the back of the barn where the horses pace for dinner is complete muck about shin deep the pasture is sitting in water and skeaters are everywhere.... eveywhere I look I see water, water, water, water........god I need a drink!!!!!!

One thing I have noticed with it being soo dry,NO MOSQUITOS /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif we have a Hummingbird Feeder out that we have to fill about every 3 days, those little devils are thirsty,no flowers or any source of nectar left.

We are suppose to have a Cold front pass through here tomorrow night and Friday, maybe that will trigger some rain,if nothing else the cooler temps. will be very welcome. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

It's been 100+ around here for the past 10 or so days /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

We would gladly take any excess moisture you could send our way.Radio said this morning that our area was 12"-14" below normal rainfall for the year /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

We have had to quit pumping water out of the Lake as the intake pipe is above the water level, the Lake is down about 7 ft. from the overflow...BTW,go ahead and have that drink /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I am while we speak /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I don't know if you can see them or not,but there are 4 Hummers on the feeder. What you can't see is the 5 or 6 that are setting in the tree or swarming around waiting their turn /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I've had "swarms" of hummingbirds at my place too. Here is a picture of one coming in for a drink.

Yep.. we've got all the rain in Maryland.. been pounded by severe storms over the last two weeks. Had a lighting strike on the smokehouse.. where my satelite dish is installed.. took out the answering machine.. and the satelite receiver. Couple days later.. the tree right next to it got hit.. it actually took out my hummingbird feeder.. had it wired up in the tree.. looks like the wire was welded in two.. and I still can't find one 5ft length of the wire.. maybe it burned up like a big lightbulb. Both sit 25 feet out my back door. After the last two years of drought.. it's nice to get the rain.. even when it's too much.

The good news.. the garden's busting.. we picked over 8 5-gallon buckets of cucumbers this last saturday.. just from the two rows we planted.. and picked over 100 gallons of squash w/in a weeks time. On the other side.. since we've had so much rain.. and had to plant late.. the sweetcorn is just now showing signs of tassling. Here's wishing you guys get rain soon!
