How far is too far?

Here's a close-up showing one section of the bank. I don't have much room to maneuver, but it still goes quickly because I can change direction so easily. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks, Brian. Not all my land is this scenic. I have some that's full of gullys too. I guess you could call it ATV heaven. Here's an example attached. One of these days I hope to make that rough area into another big pond. For now, it's good for taking people on thrill rides on the Kawasaki Mule. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Jinman, your place is awesome! I'll have to come hang out with you, sip root beer on your porch, and watch "the master" mow around his ponds. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Attached is a picture of the bank I've been talking about around my pond.

Well, you're welcome to come, but I'll bet we can find a lot more interesting things to do than watch me making a dust storm while mowing my ponds. I'd prefer to sit in the shade and try to catch some of those big catfish in my lake. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

By the way, I love your place too. I think I'd miss my trees, but I like the Texas farmhouse look and your windmill really sets it off.

Your picture of your pond bank looks like you could mow about halfway down to the water without a problem. Of course, pictures can be deceiving. You should be able to set your tires out to maximum width and mow your slope. A sickle-bar would also be a good choice, but the slope is so wide you'd have to get halfway down just to get the blade at the waterline. The only other way to keep from burning out the clutch on your tractor is to trade it in on a hydrostatic model. Then you couldn't plow worth a darn, so my vote is for you to buy two tractors. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Jim the way you are using it I suspect that you are getting your moneys worth on that hydrostatic transmission and then some. I remember backing to my pond edge with the RFM before I owned a HST and I remember how sore my clutch leg was at the end of the day afterward, not to mention the scary ride on the dam itself. And my pond is just a fraction of the size of yours.

Thank the big man upstairs for HSTs! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Has anyone ever tried temporarily adding (significant) wheel weights to the uphill side? The old Farmall "A" (an offset design) used a heavy cast wheel on one side to try to balance out having most of the drivetrain biased to the other side. I think a lot of owners still kept the drivetrain (left) side on the uphill side when on cross hills.

Anyway - if you could arrange to navigate in only one direction along the pond perimeter - I have to believe having a couple hundred pounds of cast iron that far off the centerline and uphill couldn't hurt.

You guys and your pictures of Texas make me want to move down there for the wide open spaces. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
