I'm kind of startled by the prices above for used Kubotas.

I have seen people complain about the plastic parts and knobs and so on, on TYM's, as though that's where TYM saved money. I was wondering whether it was feasible to make little improvements to these parts.

My tractor seems pretty heavily built. Steel, rubber, and a little plastic. Seems very tough.

I saw a TYM in a video, and it had a plastic tank. My tractor is about 25 years old, and it has a metal tank above the engine, where it's really hard to fill. Is plastic considered normal now? My c. 1990 JD garden tractor has a plastic tank.

As the guy who bought the no-frills Maytag commercial washer and loves it, I have to say that TYM is appealing.

Plastic tanks are the norm now. I've had no complaints with my TYM, though it is a legacy Branson model with some engineering improvements. Still has the A2300 engine, all mechanical, no goofy computer or sensors in seats, brakes, clutches etc... turn the key and it will run.

I see that the TYM T574 has more lifting power than the the Yanmar-powered model.

I don't use my tractor for farming. The vast majority of what I do is lifting wood and moving it. Lower fork. Shove under wood. Lift wood. Back up. Turn. Take to burn pile.

The more I look into it, the more I think HST is mandatory for this. I'm backing up and moving forward over and over.

My house came with curly Gore bulbs full of mercury. They took about a minute to turn on fully, and they put Americans out of work. I got rid of them when LED's came along, and then I found out LED bulbs are intentionally designed to fail early. The manufacturers put false longevity claims on the packaging, and our government lets them.

I thought I had finally found a green device I liked, but no such luck. The government of Dubai made Phillips create LED bulbs that actually work, but they are not supposed to be sold in the US.

I had a green front-loading washer. My clothes smelled like mildew. I found out this type of washer stores filthy water between washes and keeps more filthy water inside the door gasket. People like to claim they've found solutions, but they're all lying or in denial. There is no solution.

I bought a Maytag that uses about a billion gallons of water per wash. It has three dials and one button. No computer. I no longer stink, and the washer should last 15 years. The more water it "wastes," the happier I am. All you guys who have green front loaders are actually wearing your own diluted filth.

I have all sorts of electronics that refuse to stay on, as if I'm not entitled to leave them on if I want. I have freezers full of flammable gas because the old refrigerants made penguins depressed or something. Flammable gas, in an appliance in a combustible dwelling with three people living in it.

My chainsaws came with EPA-mandated defects the makers did not go out of their way to mention on the packaging. I fixed that. I had to start buying special gas because the EPA likes diverting crops to ruin engines.

Paper straws. There's a beauty. They collapse. Everyone hates them. I went to Ebay and bought 600 plastic straws. The city where I used to live banned plastic "T shirt" grocery bags in favor of paper, which is inferior and actually much worse for the environment. We're banning plastics to protect sea life, in a country where no one dumps at sea.

I could go on.

I have ample reason to be suspicious of green stuff. It's not irrational. What's irrational is assuming these products will work and buying them without questioning it. I'm all for green everything, but it has to work.

Now tiny tractors have devices that deal with a miniscule amount of soot which would otherwise land on the grass and disappear without leaving their owners' property. Okay, but I want to know what I'm doing if I buy one.

Get a grip. The old stuff still exists if you prefer it. The only person forcing you to use the new green technology is yourself.

Some here have posted their personal opinion that the Branson 4820 has superior build with the same reliable kukje engine.

The TYM 4820 and some of the other Branson incorporated models have metal fenders and a little more stout build. I think it has a two speed PTO as well. I have a T574 hydrostat with a cab. The loader lift rating is higher than any other that I know of in same size/weight class. Ballast is a must to be able to utilize it.

As far as plastic knobs and buttons, yes the PTO switches on the dash are plastic, though I don't think it has any more plastic that other brands. I suppose You could pop the plastic knob off and replace it with a nice metal one from a vintage Marshall guitar amp... The Light up push button could be replaced with an industrial one as well. They have very simple wiring and use standard off the shelf parts.

I feel hydrostat is the way to go for loader work. I only have power shuttle to compare it to, but I would take hydrostat over the power shuttle. The hydrostat has simple push button cruise control that basically locks the pedal in place. TYM's have "linked pedal" on all the time.

You will find that every feature on a T574 is mechanical. No electronics. The PTO has an auto mode but it isn't electronic. It's just controled by a simple switch that activates it when the 3 point lift is dropped. As far as tuning goes, there are guys that void the warranty and crank the injection pump pressure up a little. It is possible to do... Not going to elaborate much on this. If you can tune the pump on a 4BT or 12 valve 6B Cummins engine, you will be able to figure it out.

Being an old f art, I don't cotton to switches and electronic junk. I want everything to be mechanically actuated. Why I keep my older 2002 and 2000 Kubota M series tractors. They run excellent, smoke a bit under heavy load but still use very little fuel per running hour and are simple but efficient and both are clutchless hydraulic shuttle gear drives and both have 2 speed pto's and creep gears installed. Both have loaders and both have 3rd function installed and don't need no stinking ballast either as they both have cast centers on the rear wheels. Been told by my dealer that both are worth more than I paid for them new. Love those no emissions tractors.

Although to be factual, we have actually seen videos of groups of people screaming at the sky. Their average age was pretty low, and they were generally lovers of all things green. They put announcements up on social media, listing the times of the events and inviting people to show up.

There aren't any videos of wise old men and women yelling at the sky.

It's too bad my tractor lifts so little and has such a weak PTO. At my level of use, it will be running fine after I'm gone.

Seems like nearly everyone around here has a 25-horse tractor. I have no idea how they get anything done.

Because 95% of posters on here have 'hobby tractors' and the rest, like me own full size utility grade tractors that can perform limited farming operations (in my case running hay) or have the grunt and weight to perform ground engaging tasks.

Many years ago I started out with a 'hobby tractor' and kept buying bigger and bigger ones as my needs increased, finally settling on a large framed turbo diesel all wheel drive tactors with enough grunt and weight to handle the tasks I require them to do. The 2 I have now are I believe the 10th and 11th tractors I have purchased. All been Kubota except my very first IH Farmall A, 4 cylinder gasser that ran a Woods belly mower so long as the grass wasn't too high. More of a toy than a working tractor and always breaking down but a valuable learning experience anyway. First Kubota was a B7100 I believe. 4 cylinder hydro with a cat 1 3 point and a belly mower. I kept that a couple years and started getting bigger and bigger. Kind of wish I had kept the 7100. They are very collectable today, but then I'm not into collecting anyway. I'm 100% into tractors that work for what I need only. Bought my first M9 in 2000 and the second one in 2002 and have kept them ever since. According to my Kubota dealer's head mechanic (who takes care of any maintenance issues that arise other than fluid changes and greasing), he told me the best diesel Kubota ever produced was the VTE Turbocharged engine that powers both of mine. I had him shim the pumps on both for a bit more grunt as well (+10 pto) and he told me with normal care they would both outlive me and I believe him in as much as neither have had any drivetrain related issues in all the years I've owned them. They start in the coldest weather and run in the hottest weather, no issue. Plenty of hydraulic flow and the 3PH's are very stout as well as the loaders. The loaders are rated for 2500 pounds and they can handle 2 full sized rounds on a double spear, no issue. Too keep the rear planted, I put one round on the back as well. One has over 4500 hours on it and the other is approaching 5500 hours with just routine upkeep. Dennis (the tech at my dealer) told me they can go 15K hours without any issues so long as they are properly maintained which is longer than I'll be around anyway. Told me he has one customer with 25000 hours on his, all farming and he just installed a new turbocharger on it, still runs fine, good oil pressure as well.

I have a Yanmar YM2310 which apparently has 27 horsepower and 23 HP at the PTO. I almost never use all the power available. My tractor is a beast. I am amazed at the work it will do. I have a 5 foot Yanmar tiller, a box blade, and post hole digger with a 9 inch auger. It has a front end loader too that gets used to the max. And when used to the max it is not HP that limits the lift it is the cylinders. Not too long ago I pulled a 30 foot long power pole out of a 4 foot deep ditch onto the road and then onto a trailer to take it home. My tractor had no problem doing the task. I know, my tractor is 2 HP over the typical 25 HP machine but I don't think the extra 2 HP makes much difference, especially since I rarely use all the HP the machine can deliver.

I can see how 27 horsepower would be fine for those jobs. Where I live, trash oaks are all over, and they start rotting almost as soon as they sprout. A lot of the work here is cutting and moving trash trees. That takes a machine that can lift a lot. I guess I didn't think about digging post holes and tilling.

My tractor is rated at 1500 pounds, and I'll take as much lifting power as I can get. I have moved many tons of wood.
