Do Europeans pay any income taxes or are all their taxes paid with the money they spend?

A basic part is fairly low on tax. Whenever you have a modal salary, and get a raise, reckon its 37% of that part which is tax. ( i have no idea what the tax is on basic income)

Dont know if its still exactly that percentage, the health care system is changed 2 years ago, partly privatised, so work will be done more efficient, and there will be a controlled amount of competition, just like in the "real world economy" Not too much though, because health care is a basic right which should be affordable for anyone, not just for the rich and healthy.

To beat down a great amount of bureaucracy, the government wants to promote competition among health insurers. They cannot reject anyone with a chronical disease though, to prevent that we'll live or die "like any other animal" ;)

But I have talked to quite a few of the survivors and they tell a vasty different story than the American Media story!!!!

Dont worry, Barack Obama gets a whole different kind of attention of left wing biased media in Europe, than John McCain.
Barack is showed as the visionair that re-unites the world, stops the endless war on terror the way America got out of Vietnam, blablabla.

Today i read about John McCain. he said in his younger political years, he was like a ****. (his own words !!) But a Democrat changed him, he got a great relationship with this guy. When the guy was old and suffered Parkinson in a lonely hospital room, McCain was the only one who visited this guy regularly ! The Left wing European media walks away with Obama, but I think something that does NOT get dragged into the media, says more about someones (political) character, than the facts they show off in the media... I like when people do right things when the cameras are off... ;)
Knowing this, i dont have any politcal preferences anymore: I'll just wait and see who America elects (just NOT Bush....) ;)

You did not mention anything about living through a war. You stated war isn't the answer unless you win. Germany and Japan lost a war and they are doing well. Try and stay on the same topic you start.

Any other information about you Mike?

To reply to the OP. I'm in Southern England, the most expensive part.....
Diesel is currently about $9.80/USgal, and is well down on what it was. It made it to $15 a gal some places in the west country.
I just paid $80 for 5.3 USgal of hydraulic fluid. That was nowhere near the most expensive either.
A 6.6USgal tub of engine oil starts at about $100.
About $1 for 2 pints of milk.

VAT (paid on all non-essentials) is 17.5%. Fuel is heavily taxed, leading to the high prices. The fuel station owners can actually lose money on the fuel they sell, they just use the shops on the forecourt to make money.
We also pay road tax to pay for th upkeep of the roads (which is pretty poor anyway). Also income tax which depends on what you earn, but is as high as 40%. National insurance is payable too. Then council tax.......

Hope no one shows McCain this post ----he has a temper worst than mikee and me put together!!!!

....they tell a vasty different story than the American Media story!!!!

Trying to clarify what i was trying to say in my previous post: The European media makes McCain a total moron, and hails Obama. Last week, in a small comment in a fairly independent newspaper, i heard some positive things about McCain, and criticism on Obama, both things the leftwing European mainstream media didnt tell me...

----Cindy probably owns that factory and trucks and gives McCain a little salary each month---Thank go--- for Daddy in Law and all his hard work!!!!!!
Its a result of your political system, so why condemn it ??
I'd say, give each candidate equal opportunities (means state sponsored election campaigns) by law (even though many liberals shiver by the thought of state control in the democratic election apparatus) and prohibit any private or commercial money to be put into the election campaigns. It makes the playing field level, even though it may cost you a bit more tax... In other countries, the cost of democracy is payd with BLOOD, so a bit of tax money shouldnt be the reason not to do it.

Hope no one shows McCain this post ----he has a temper worst than mikee and me put together!!!!

Ha ha, maybe McCain has the temper, necessary to make the "change" happen that Obama promises... ;) Truth is that only 1 candidate gets the chance to show if they are able to make happen what they promise... ;)

Off course its not my president, and i, as a European, dont know, hear, read and see enough to make an honest vote between the two anyways, but from the things i DO know, i dont prefer one above the other.... I am not really familiar with the controverse between republican vs. democrat party, (our country has a wide variety of parties, from both left and right extremes) so my opinion isnt based on party differences. So even though America has a big influence in the rest of the world, i'll just wait and see who YOU guys elect for YOUR country. For what the opinion of a Non-american is worth, I'm happy with either of the two, ;)

not condemning it just neither side of the media likes to point out who works 9-5 for their money and who married or inheirted their trust fund!!!

It usually boils down to a few religious issues and the "free" health care issue. Some don't beleive in free health care for all!!! Those with the gold want the control. It will be funny when those with the meat and vegatables make all the rules cause very one else is hungry!!!!
Sure hope Europe is training farmers cause America is going to wake up a hungry country someday!!!!
Do you have a little extra wheat and rice you can send us we sold all ours!!!!
FOR MONEY!!!!
