Absolutely!

Juanillo, I'm curious whether you decided to upgrade the right side or not, and whether Kioti recommends that they be changed out together for any reason.

CM, if you've sonething constructive to say I'd love to read it. Some people share their wisdom to benefit others, some do it to benefit themselves. To correct you, this "issue" was never an issue in anyone elses mind but yours, how you reacted, and continue to react, was the issue. It too is now no longer an issue as you don't seem to value anyone elses opinion or advice, which is unfortunate as I'm sure you've a lot to offer those of us less experienced.

I have and will continue to share constructively on these forums, whenever possible. I have learned from others here most all of what I know about tractors, and am very grateful for the knowledge I have gained. I do value other's opinions and advice from these forums, however I do not appreciate being attacked because I point out a policy issue that most seem to want to disregard when convenient, or pretend doesn't apply to them via some rationalization of what goes on on the rest of the net or some other misinformed/ misguided understanding of how things work.
So, as already suggested, if you were to stop arguing with me about this then we could move back to tractor issues. This horse was dead long before you showed up to beat on it some more. So as to respect an opinion try respecting mine and let this go.

Thanks,

CM

Hi Mike

I decided not to upgrade the other side, and Kioti said it was not necessary but did offer to cover shipping if I decided to upgrade.

$600 in extra parts is just not possible for me right now. Who knows maybe the other side will last a long time..I certainly hope so.

I will probably just unbolt the whole end and take that to them rather than trailering the whole tractor, like another poster suggested. It's just a few bolts and that way my dealer can get all the seals and possible extra parts and such, which Kioti said they would cover as well.

I am sure I can do it, but I think it's easier for the dealer to handle all the ordering. Should not be as expensive if I do it that way. At least I hope not.

I hope it works out for you. If you're able to arrange that they rebuild it the same day you deliver it, and the dealer is one that doesn't mind inquisitive owners, it might be worthwhile to ask them to pop the right side apart to inspect it, just to give you peace of mind. It doesn't take them long to do and you'll be all the more confident in it. I have one of each type of dealer near me, one with a "employees only" policy, which I can appreciate, and another who will bring a customer into the bays to answer any questions you might have, I prefer the latter.

Good luck!

Here is an observation. Possibly trivial. Could the fact that tire on the broken axle was rotating the wrong direction have created undo stress on the axle?? Just a thought.

Took it apart. I am seriously wondering why these parts would be $600 and why fixing it would be $500??? I mean it took me 10 minutes to get this far. Not really that complicated. I wonder why my dealer didn't suggest that I do this in the first place as opposed to having me pay for hauling the tractor?

Kioti said ..."You will have to replace the bevel case and the axle case with the new and improved part numbers as well as a new oil seal, (as indicated below) in the note from our parts database. The old, original parts for this tractor are no longer produced."

Are they saying I have to replace the whole thing because they no longer make the individual parts that actually broke? Weird, it is only a 2007 model.

Looking at it, most of the parts in this thing still look good.

I added the last picture because I was surprised how small the innards were. lol

Also do I need a fork to get the ball joints off? Anyone have a trick? Didn't want to force it.

thanks!!!

Usually these front axles will leak and only the seal needs replacing.
It looks like your axle fell apart which could indicate a design flaw. That could be why you are being told to replace the bevel case and the axle case and other related parts.

Even though a manufacturer redesigns a product they will maintain inventory to repair what is out there for a period of time. A redesigned seal as apposed to a bevel case, axle case replacement makes more sense. If they are saying no parts, replace only, then there may be more owners having the same problem or about to. Dig around for other similar problems and maybe a secret warranty extension for "squeaky wheels".

Find out exactly what parts need to be replaced and why that is necessary on a 4 year old tractor.

Have you talked directly to Kioti or are you going through your dealer? There maybe room for negotiation if this was a design flaw.

Bevel case $137. Axle case $195 for one side plus the other parts.
My thoughts would be that $1100 parts, labour and taxes should do both sides and give you back change.

If one side fell apart then I would be concerned that the other side might as well. Negotiate for both sides.
Save yourself future grief and do both sides especially if it is a design issue.

The ball joint should pry away but would be easier to remove if the whole assembly were still on the tractor. It may need a little bit of hammer.

Loosen the nut a half turn or so and give the top a wack with a hammer..

hit the side, NOT the top, of the joint and it will let go.
