Glad you are doing well.

"I'm just getting older, weaker, and lazier all the time.." Sounds like me and my cardiologist says my heart is great.

Hi Harv, it's good to be back, been 5 years since I posted really.
I saw your comment about making a trike but did you know electric bikes are allowed on trails.
All electric bikes practically have their governor set not to exceed 20 miles an hour. Most State laws do not classify an electric bike as a motorized vehicle if it does not exceed 20 mph. Often times you see on State and County walking/bike trails, "No Motorized Vehicles" But electric bikes are not considered a motorized vehicle. Maybe this information will be of help to you.

Good to see your voice Rox. The trike is on the list but right now the list is packed. I don't know how Bird made it as long as he has, seems like retirement is all about attacking the lists with a vengeance.

I had two visits with the VA when we got back home. The consensus seems to be that my body is doing great but the mind is going quick. It appears I'm going to be the medical nightmare, dementia into the hundreds.

Sounds like Mom... in her 80's she is physically fit... 5 miles hike is a walk in the park and can spend half a day splitting and stacking firewood... problem is memory.

At least her natural disposition is kind and caring as they say a person's true character is often unfiltered with Dementia.

Harvey, I don't know how I've made it this long myself. You know my Dad first started showing signs of Alzheimer's when he was 75-76, he lived to be 80, and the last 2 or 3 years were pretty tough for Mom, and for us, too. And now I'm 76 and feel that my memory is really slipping away fast. So I don't know whether I'm going to be an Alzheimer's victim or if it's just old age. Anyway, I hope you're wrong about your mental state.

Twice in the last couple of months I've had women come up to me in big stores and ask me if I'm okay. I haven't felt THAT confused but evidently they thought I was. My wife is getting pretty concerned because according to her it's getting pretty bad when it comes to short term memory stuff.

Dad just turned ninety and looks like a hundred is possible. I'm a ton more healthy than he was at my age. I get a physical because of Agent Orange exposure once a year. The trend is my numbers when it comes to cholesterol, blood sugars, etc is they get better with age. Six eggs a day and the cholesterol is good at 68 years.

The Agent Orange thing is worrisome. At least ten percent of the guys who served with me have either died of the cancers or are fighting them. And I served two tours and they only served one.

Harv, we'll sure hope it doesn't get any worse. I don't know of anyone in my family, on either side, who lived past 80 except my Mother who made it to 85, but was an invalid the last 10 years, and Dad's youngest sister who lived to 92. Otherwise 80 has been the upper limit and most didn't make it that far. Of course, at 76, I no longer have a living relative as old as I am now.

I think we all have some memory loss as we age. At 74 I'm having some health problems. But minor stuff compared to what others are having.
I go threw episodes putting things down and cannot find them for days. To cope with these problems I buy items that are bright in color. Also make a written list. There re many ways to cope with short term memory. I bet Harvey already is working on a tool to fix this.
Hope to see you guys in December.

None of the men in my family made it to 80... the women all live longer but 50% suffer from memory problems.

I noticed with Mom that I can say just enough to jog her memory so that many casually don't know she has problems.

The other day she asked me if I rearranged her kitchen and I said have not touched a thing... she was commenting on everything being out of place and I asked her to show me... she went to the silverware drawer but there was no silverware... then it clicked... she was associating location with our old home which we moved out of in 1969... soon to be 50 years ago.

For as long as I can remember she attended the 8 am Sunday services... last year the 8 am service was cancelled and now only a 10 am service is offered... without fail... she is dressed and ready to go to Sunday service at 7:30 am and totally confused when I tell her there is no more 8 am service...

Anything that changes the standard routine can be problematic...

Bird, if statins are causing you muscle pains you may want to try a supplement CoQ10 (Ubiquinone). Your body normally produces it but the statins take it out and this can cause muscle pains. In this study the people taking CoQ10 supplement experienced a decrease in muscle pain of 40%.
Effect of coenzyme q1 on myopathic symptoms in patients treated with statins. - PubMed - NCBI

I'm bring this up because I saw you mention statins and muscle pain on another thread. I also was in Houston yesterday and one of the Dr. suggested taking it for muscle pains when taking statins. You might want to ask your Dr. to see what he says about it.

Other research has shown that along with Ubiquinone, chlorophyll (from eating dark leafy greens) and skin exposure to sunlight is needed to make CoQ10 in our bloodstream.
