If it is a small clover like weed, it is called Duckweed. It gets started this time of the year and it acts to keep the pond from overheating. It is also a very nutritional food for the fish. No need to control it, because by October it will be gone and the fish will have been well fed to winter over. Next spring you will see no traces of it until about late summer. Aquarium hobbies love to get this for their fish tanks since all the fish thrive on the weed. Let Mother Nature do what she is best at doing...... taking care of all her creatures. Throw 100 goldfish into the pond and they will also help to devour it. Goldfish are in the carp family and they work well to keeping ponds ecologically healthy.

(Here goes PG13)
SimFarm sounds like it sucks!

No, I want an actual tractor simulator. (JCB sort of has a backhoe simulator).

If the propeller-heads can have all their crappy controls /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif, why can't we have - you know - loader joystick and TPH and PTO controls /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif? (There is already steering wheels and foot pedals) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif etc.

Junk don't think it's Duckweed, looks more like Watermeal to me. It's less than 1/16" wide, has no root, and it feels like grits between my fingers. I think the darn ducks brought it in from the pond with the beaver dam next door. That particular pond has always been covered with the crud. It completely took our pond over in a time frame of about 2 weeks.

Will Goldfish work for this stuff as well? Will I need Tiger Oscars to eventually rid my pond of the Goldfish once they get outta hand? questions, questions......

Anyone have any experience with the chemicals Reward or Sonar? I'm all for nuking them hard with the stuff. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Goldfish will eat everything. Don't worry about them getting out of hand, because the heron and raccoons will pick them off as soon as they start getting large. I am not if favor of using chemicals, since it will clear on its own in a few weeks when it gets cold. Besides, you won't be able to eat the fish in the pond if you nuke them... Junk.... Junk from what I have learned Watermeal if left untreated will sink to the bottom of the pond as the weather starts to get colder true, But come next year it will come back to the surface to haunt us again. The stuff is bisexual and as such will double in any 24 hour period.

Put copper sulfate in the water....... that will kill all weeds. We used to treat fish ailments with it and it always killed the plants. Unfortunately, it will be a long time before any other plants will also start living in the water, so any decorative water lilies are definitely out of the question. If it is as prolific as you say, that is going to be the best course of action.

Can't take that chance Junk. if I kill all the weeds the huge 8 White Amour will starve and the wife will be po'd at me big time, again .

Had I not been the handsomest, richest Ohioan anywhere, she would have dumped me long ago. She later found out that I was darn near broke but good looks saved the relationship. Yeah, sure. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

So, think I might shoot for the Reward since it can be sprayed on the Watermeal from a boat and won't kill weeds that it doesn't come in contact with.

I'm with you, hobbyfarm, I for one would waste too much time on it anyway! Of course, some misguided folk must see merit in SimFarm, because I see Ebay has one bid up to $20.

Ebay SimFarm

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Anyway, back to your idea, I can see it now: SimTractor:

You must first outfit your toy: turf or bar tires; BackHoe or both the BB and BushHog; wide light bucket or narrow heavy bucket, tooth bar or forks....choices choices....

Then the challanges: mow 10 acres or have to pay neighbor $200 [you choose the BH huh?]; don't get it done in minimal time: pay $500 for gift to appease wife.

Then the hundred yard boulder roll....

Oh, the timed stump dig [yep, the BH was a good choice].

My favorite.....you're in the manlift [snow bucket to us farm guys, but don't alert the safety police] & have wife running tractor: must choose between, then execute, yelling over engine noise or using hand signals to get your wife to bring you back to the ground safely. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But, I fear it would be destroyed by marketing people:

it needs some lasers or machine guns to make it appealing.....and if you loose the BH & FEL you could streamline it for real appeal...what if it goes really fast....if it's streamlined and fast, it'd really sell if it could fly /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
