That is interesting about Subaru. I have a lot of respect for their Engineering.

On here, somebody's tag is from I think Gen. Patton "If everybody is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking".

Great to see a major company with the guts to Zag, when everybody is Zigging. Then again, this is not a new strategy from Subaru.

As do I. I only had one Subie, and I never had to do anything on it. I
don't know how easy the sparkplugs are to get to on those boxer motors...

BTW, Toyota just partnered with Subaru to make a sporty 2+2, seemingly
to replace the Celica. Subaru designed it and it will have the flat
4. They call it the BRZ, while Americans will see it as the Scion FR-S.
Maybe other countries will see it as the Toyota GT86?

That Toyota will run with a Subaru engine, well that kinda says it all.

Been a while since I've been under the hood of one, but I recall a pretty serviceable engine bay - the boxers are a nice compact design, I'm guessing the plugs should be pretty accessible.

If I was in the market for an AWD car, Subaru would be a strong contender - reliable, solid platform, and one of the best drive-trains on the market. Small wonder they always place well on the rally circuit.

Ran my sons Hemi to 150K miles before deciding to replace all 16 sparkplugs.. pulled them out and they all measured over .125 gap!!!!.. Put new OEM replacements in and F.E. went up 1-2 MPG.. Was once told that the ignition system on the little Hemi actually fires one "off power stroke" plug as it fires the one actually on the power stroke. My S.I.L. Durnago has 215K on the factory plugs, he plans on getting rid of it at the end of this year, so we aren't going to bother replacing them... There are vast differences between different manufacturers sparkplugs, I see this all the time with the sparkplugs for natural gas engines...
I haven't seen a gas powered car with a replaceable fuel filter since my neices little Sunfire... like 2003 model..
As a diesel owner, I have NO plans to rebuild my fuel injectors at or before 100K... Simply sampling the engine oil and if I suspect an issue, run a cylinder contribution/fuel duration test will tell me way more than a rebuild shop would do..
I replace the factory 7 micron fuel filter every 10-15K miles... Oil changes every 7.5K miles.

My 2 cents worth: I changed the plugs on my Subaru at the specified 36,000 miles, and it was easy until the wire broke off one of the tubes that fits over the plug, down inside the heads- had to buy a whole set of plug wires to get the single replacement wire/tube assembly. PITA. Changed the Iridium plugs on my wife's Civic hybrid, all 8 of them ( this is a 4 cylinder engine, of course) easily. Specs said do it at 105,000 miles, so okay. Only the cost, about $12 each on line, was a PITA. Dealer wanted over $20 each for them.
I still use a bottle of aviation spark plug anti-sieze I've had since the 60's- works great, espcecially on aluminum heads. A friend who worked at GM in the 70's told me that it cost as much to box the plugs as to make them- less than 10 cents or so! One last comment: I had a buddy who had beautiful Jaguar sedan in the 60's- he always carried a wooden block with 6 spare spark plugs, and the needed tools, since he never knew when he'd need them. Don't miss that part of old cars!
