Just wondering what everyone (that has the heaters) uses for a time to energize the heater on a glow cycle? Yesterday I needed to use 2 tractors it was 30 degs. One started easily after a 10 sec glow. The other tractor which has the newer model engine, but has been sitting for a month, had a surprisingly hard time to start. I glowed it up to 12 secs and than left it on while it cranked for maybe 30 more seconds (the airflow should cool it down). The fuel tank was down to 1/4, maybe it was slightly airbound?

Some IDI engine brands with prechamber glow plugs are self regulating, could that be too much to ask?

I usually run glow plugs for no more than 5 seconds on my kubotas and yanmar. Terry told me I shouldn’t even need glow plugs in middle Tennessee.

FWIW: I run the Deutz glow plugs 10-20 seconds depending on how cold it is. "Warm" being 40F, and "Cold" being 34F. Unlike IDI engines with glow plugs in the combustion chamber, I haven't noticed any benefit to running the glow plugs after the engine catches.

The glow plugs definitely help, but the biggest help for me at my temperatures was upgrading the starter to the higher power starter. (1.5kW to 2.3kW?)

I do give the PT a chance to warm up the hydraulic oil when it is cold, or the pedal response is too slow for my comfort. Lots of obstacles and drop offs around here.

All the best,

Peter

I leave my heat gun on the intake on low, aim the salamander at the oil tank and go have a couple cups of coffee. By the time I put my boots on, she fires right up!

FWIW, glow plugs and intake heaters are very different and require different handling.
