How long have you been in the seat and first tractor

Dad turned me loose at age 14? on about 150 acres to be tilled with his Case 970 Agri king running a Howard rotavator.

Hood was over my head, But I was really happy he trusted me with that big powerful machine.

At twelve I was driving my Dad's one ton Chevy P/U. It rode every bit as rough as any tractor. My first tractor was when we moved from AK down on the property here. It was a brand new 1982 Ford 1700 4WD. In 2009 I traded it for a new Kubota M6040.

About 1964 on a Fergusson TEF 20 and Fordson Major, then moved to the Land of Oz and lived in suburbia until 2002, shortly after that got a Grey Fergie with a grader which I didn't enjoy and didn't use much, about four years ago we needed an arena so bought a Kubota BX2370 with FEL, what a pleasure it was after the bum busting Fergie, built the arena and mastered the FEL which I had never used before, a few months ago with the impending move to more acres and round bales needed to feed the horses we bought the Kioti DK5810 with FEL with 4 in 1 bucket and hayspikes on the eurohitch, I loved the Kubota but it was a bit too small for the new place, aalso have a grader, rake, harrows, single tine ripper with pipe layer and auger, I'm sure that collection will grow.

I was about 10 when I grew enough leg to push the clutch on Dad's WC. About '57. I mowed about 5 acres this week getting ready to work it up with an old JD cover-crop disc and a home made harrow.

What a cool thread!

I think I was about 6 years old and visiting my uncle in Canistota, SD. I remember him putting me in the driver's seat all alone (probably not) and I 'moved' his tractor. Can't find pics and have no idea what was the tractor, but it was BIG. I do remember him trying not yell at me to turn away from the ditch I was heading towards.

1959, the Farmall C was only 9 years old, pulling a small square baler. Would have been 1958 but I went and got my knee busted up. Age? 13.

About 1956, age 7. A WD45 which was great because of the hand clutch.

I was in my twenties before I ran a large tractor. It was one of the original center pivot 4wd John Deere's can't remember the model number. I thought that thing was massive!!!

In 1962, 30 cents an hour wasn't much, that's for sure, but then, I probably would have done it for free at that age, just to get to drive the tractor!

In 1968, at 14 years old, I was making 62 cents an hour working at least three hours every day picking up eggs at a commercial production facility in Auburn Washington. Walking distance. Miserable work in the summer and winter. I did in fact have to walk two miles through the woods to get to and from home. In the summer it was not bad but the winter was usually cold, dark and wet and crossing numerous fences barb wire fences.

My first job right out of college in 1964, was $364 per month. Less than I was making painting houses.

My parents bought my first tractor for me. It was about a 1951-1952 Murry. I was so proud of it. Pedal speed control on both the right and left hand pedals. Like the newer hydrastatic pedals we have now you just had to reverse them. No power steering, RWD only offered. Had the rear hitch mount but I didnt get the trailer with it.
Somewhere I have a picture of it and will try to post it.

Don't be too harsh on yourself, we all have to start somewhere and a Kubota is a nicer start than the Fergie which loved to wheel stand when your foot slipped of that awful excuse for a clutch pedal.
My latest challenge is lining up the eurohitch because I can't quite see it.

About 6 years old on a John Deere H. Then an Allis WD. Along the way there was an 8N, 9N, AC D12, Ford 3000, etc. Then a long break until recently. An AC B and now a NH TC21D.

I get my tractor stuck at least once a year mowing... with the reed canary grass there's a little bit of structure on the surface but the silt liquid just below that doesn't have much once you break through... Every year when mowing that junk I always think that I can make just one more row, then I sink a tire, then the other goes and with the loader those 6" wide front tires don't take much to go down... I got better with the one way clutch added to the PTO (no internal one way on this bad boy, but it does have a 4 speed PTO) but it still happens on occasion...

I might have misunderstood things before, the first time I drove a tractor was that story I believe and it was in around 1990...
