How long is to long for dealer repairs?

In 1981, I bought my very first, brand new, new car smell, Ford F-150.

The 300 CID engine is always, always bullet proof. Well, I just got a bad one. It had a knock from day one and I wasn't going to be satisfied making payments on a knocking truck, supporting a wife and two kids (at the time).

Looooong story short. After way too many trips, leaving the truck, "truck's fixed", (truck wasn't fixed). In 4 months, I only put 600 miles on it. I finally did a slow burn. I was making payments on a truck I didn't have.

Met my salesman, looked him in the eye and said, "I'm not leaving without a new truck". He could see I meant every word. He went off to meet with the big boss. A few minutes later, the deal was done. I could go out to the lot and pick out a new, same color truck. The new one had a cheaper seat. They swapped it for my old, better one. The new one had an automatic. OK. I'd have to pay $550 up or whatever it was at the time. Had to pay the 4% sales tax, because it is considered a new sale. OK by me. The whole deal ended up changing my payment something like 19 bucks a month. I left in the new one, and the old one was still in pieces in his back room.

BTW, that new F-150 never darkened the door of any shop, ever, and was one of the best vehicles I ever owned, flat out. Memory of the first one faded away.

At some point, and only you can decide when that is, if they cannot fix the old one, it'll be time to cut your losses and move on.

OT: Those were killer engines, I know people that put 300-500K miles on them
and no rebuilds. Maybe they were too good and that's why they stopped using them.

Tractor is coming back tomorrow. New mower deck and all fixed. Not sure of the total out of pocket expenses yet.

Tractor is back. However it is missing the following parts which they said where not in yet, but would ship when they arrived

Emblem & stickers on hood. (Got new hood due to small dent) They ordered new hood but no stickers or emblems...

Push pins to hold floor mat on. (Can't reuse old ones, but said they don't stock because they take up to much room )

knob for mower deck. (old one ruined when taking skin off tractor)

Tail light lens (Got cracked somehow)

Hooks to weld on the front bucket. (They said they would weld them on but guy who brought the tractor said they were out of stock on them)

They are also sending me things I noticed missing or broken when they got there.

The front wheel bearing rubber boots where torn. They said they would mail them to me. Annoying part is I pointed that out when I dropped the tractor off 3 months ago.

The 3pt that I got from them when I got the tractor is missing some miscellaneous parts

The Land Pride post hold digger is missing some parts as well.

When I get the rest of the parts in then I would consider this a closed issue. In the end I got a free 1 yr upgrade and a great deal on a new mower deck. Am I satisfied. Not really. I will look to another brand for my next tractor. The whole time they sole intent of the dealer was to make more money. He did not want to submit for warranty due to Kubota pays only $50 hour and book labor and they charge insurance $60 hour and Kubota only gives them cost on the parts, instead of retail like he gets from the insurance. Never did they try to do any kind of fair trade in and when we talked about trade in all he wanted to quote me was msrp on new bx25. I spent countless hours on the phone trying to get my tractor back and in the end the dealer just wanted to tell me how their mechanics spent more than 100 hours but only billed my insurance for 24 hours. I proceeded to tell him if they had known what they were doing in the first place it would not have taken that long and if they had done their initial inspection like they said they did they would have found the pto did not work from the factory. If that was even the case.

Find another kubota dealer when and if it is all over as this one is not doing anyone any favors, let alone taking care of a customer with obvious problems with the tractor he sold you and I would chat with the state attorney general in your state as it is a legitimate legal issue involving the machinery service for warranty repairs and in addition you have had to wait for and deal with and if they were serious about business in general they would have asked to you to return the tractor and offered a new one simply because of the defects in the original unit which they had no business selling to you.

I am sorry no one mentioned slapping them with a mechanics lien as that would have gotten you a new replacement tractor the same day.

The the matt clips issue is a crock too.

The boot issue is something they should have fixed period and not just say they will send you one.

Oh and as he did not submit the repairs for warranty he most likely also broke the laws for warranty repairs in your state as well.

If you have further problems with this dealer and his or here poor performance and lack of desire to address a legitimate warranty claim I will offer this method which works wonders.

Send a copy of the letters you will send to the attorney general in your state, to the dealer in question, kubota in california, kubota in georgia, and your attorney as well as the the local district attorney as it is already a warranty fraud issue with said dealer stating he would not submit the claim thus voiding any and all warranty coverage options and aiding thus adding to legal redress you have with as of now which has increased due to their poor performance and lack of warranty preparedness.

plus sitting across the road from the place of business with a nice big sign offers plenty of the wrong publicity.

the engines and transmissions come from japan and they had a problem that was not remedied period when it was assembled carelessly and of course not inspected by someone somewhere on this side of the pacific.

Dont blame kubota for this dealers self made problems as his actions unfortunately are a poor reflection on the rest of them due to thier poor management and delaying tactics,in which they would have been solved very quickly by visiting your attorney and a letter to your states attorney general describing the warranty issues and thier delaying tactics towards you.

you have a warranty for your purchased machinery which would be covered by your states legal requirements for large cash value purchases wherein they have a said warranty provided by the manufatcurer and were required to be serviced by the authorised dealer for said product.
