I'm in NJ.
A colleague at work has a subscription to Angie's List. If it comes to a replacement, I think I'll give that a try.
I'm reconsidering the idea that my pump is bad.
The boiler hasn't turned on by itself now for a day.
When I hit the reset switch, it runs for a few minutes and then shuts down before the water temp is up to the high range. If I wait a few seconds, another reset will turn the boiler on again and it will run for a few minutes then shut down.
It doesn't seem to stay running on its own until it reaches the high water temp range as I would expect if the problem was with the pump.
My sense of it is that if the problem was with the pump, the water temp would get to the high range before the boiler shut down and that after it cooled it would cycle on its own....but that's not what's happening.
This condition that I'm describing has gotten worse over the course of the past few weeks. A few days ago the boiler had been running normally for hours at a time and within the past day or so it seems it only runs for a few minutes when I hit the reset button.
I'm going to try to clean the controller switch. (the box with the reset button) to see if that makes a difference.
