How long should things last?

The fuel truck guy was really the first time I realized people can be absolutely clueless. I walked into the office at 8:00am and asked the receptionist why XXX was leaving early? She said Butch (our vehicle mechanic) fired him. I said "He can't do that, XXX is my employee." She said he lit the little 100 on fire by checking the level with a lighter last night. I laughed hard and said something like yeah right! I walk in the back hangar and Butch is scrubbing ash off the fuel tank lid on top of the tank!

I called XXX back in to get his side of the story.... then confirmed he's fired! Lucky to be alive.
I've demoted and threatened employees that they would be sent home for the day and wouldn't be eligible to use sick time or vacation time to cover the lost time.

Their reply was "you can't do that!!!!"

My reply "while technically that is true!!! All I have to do is make 1 phone call, and the person I'll be calling will have that authority!!!! Your choice!!!! Get to work, or get that phone call!!!!"

When it comes to safety, i've sent people back to the shop for being really dumb, i've had customers throw coworkers off from jobsites over issues as well.

Both of the latter were followed up with phone calls to my boss as to why it was happening.

Back around 1980 there was a fatal accident at a nearby Chevrolet dealership.
A newly hired salesman was sent out back to help clean up the shop.
The story is, he was tasked with filling a 55 gallon drum with water when he used a lighter to see how full it was. I don't know what was originally in the barrel but it allegedly took his head off as it went up and bounced off the 30 foot ceiling.
At least nobody else was hurt.

I have come up with a cheap circuit to shut the mower off with the key. I have the parts, but I haven't done the breadboarding, testing, and assembly. It works in simulation.
Yeah, seems like you could do all that with a couple relays. But this is DIGITAL so it's gotta be better! :ROFLMAO:

Three resistors, two transistors, and a capacitor.

I don't know if Kubota's ECM is digital.

I think there was a youtube video at one time of a guy cutting the top off an empty 55 gallon barrel IIRC it showed the explosion and the guy died, if he had just filled the barrel with water probably not had anything but a small pop.

Things can go wrong all on their own in a hurry without humans being dumb , but it sure does not help. This video hydraulic line burst on an extrusion press and when the oil was vaporized as it was ejected the heaters caught the vapor on fire.

Talk about things going bad in a hurry.

I have to wonder what he ran back for. It looked like a hat but that can't be right.

Phone, I think.

Interesting to see that the welder had the sang froid to close off his oxygen and acetylene tanks.

The fire starts almost immediately after the welder lights his torch, which makes me wonder about oil mist. High pressure hydraulic oil sprays can produce very fine mists.

All the best,

Peter
