I still like FB for keeping up with friends and family. My cousin in Saskatchewan recently passed away from Colin Cancer and the only way we where able to keep up with what was happening was through FB. The rest of the family has all been able to communicate with each other on FB. It's been the best way to stay in touch with each other. With the border still closed, we can't even go to the funeral, so that will all be through FB. He was only 45 and it was the same type of cancer that my wife had, but treatment was night and day different there. She tried to help, but things are done a lot differently there then they are here. But to be fair, my wife is a RN that knows everyone at the hospital, and she received better care then anybody else could that wasn't very good friends with everyone that runs the hospital, along with having BCBS insurance through the state of Texas.
I have also found that by not posting political stuff of FB, and focusing on the farm and my dogs, that I can post pictures of a job that I'm working on or finished, and get half a dozen calls about a project that they want done. While I don't get every job that I look at, the ones that I do get will hire me based on my FB postings and nothing else. People that I've never met in person, but that I'm FB friends with, will tell all their friends and family to call me when they want something done. I haven't provided references to anybody in well over a decade. Most of my clients are either FB friends, or they Friend me after meeting talking about their project. Some of them that don't hire me for that job, will hire me to fix it, or to do another project that comes up. I also send out Christmas cards to all of my clients, and I see them still on display months into the next year. I went to 6 houses last week to look at projects. 4 of them where repeat clients, and all of them still had my Christmas Card on display.
FB and sending Christmas Cards is all that I do to get work, and market myself. I have over 4,100 FB friends and we sent out 234 Christmas Cards. I have never had a day that I didn't have a job to go to, and it's not uncommon for clients to wait six months for me to get to them. As of today, I a have 4 bids on my desk to fill out, two bathroom remodels to look and bid this week, and one office to look at. I am currently booked up to April. For that alone, I really do love FB.
Having said all that, I have joined just about everything out there that might lead to becoming the next FB. So far, nothing has come close, but I still visit them from time to time to add friends, followers and what not.
