I saw the Chief Lanier interview. For the first few seconds it alarmed me because it's such a change in direction. By the time she was finished I was applauding it. I believe it to be good advice in high crime areas. In the long term I think it will change the mentality of the Wolves. They will have to anticipate some sort of resistance. That will make them more hesitant to launch an attack in crowded areas.

Whether being armed with a gun would improve your success or diminish it. I think it would always improve your success chances. But the side affect will be the late comer to the scene that is also a CC person and sees you with a gun. You might be interpreted as the Wolf. But these are the chances that must be taken if we are going to get any sort of control over this problem.

Too bad her words aren't backed up by action: She and her dept. approve very few CCW permits for citizens of DC. Mostly to the politically connected.

No surprise in that. But,,,, at least it's being talked about. And it doesn't always take a CC citizen to stop a shooter. A well placed hook to the temple area from behind would do the trick. Anything is better than standing there waiting for your turn to be shot.

Most of the attacks I know about have happened in places where government has zealously done everything they could to prevent the civilian population from being able to stop anything. And, the local LEOs are quite happy to vigorously enforce these laws. Very, very few LEOs speak up against disarmament laws.

I see it as a two way street. In many places where government and LE has given civilians the ability to stop attacks, they have stepped up. The media hates to report these stories and burry them as best they can.

same in Ma. except it's the chief of the individual cities/towns.

Although maybe a little more easy to get. Not much but maybe a little. Bigger cities are tough.

I live in a shall issue state for CC.. Can OC with no permit at all..
In my county, the permit is $7.50 per yr, with the option to renew every 5 yrs ($37.50)

I see that an important point was missed by my earlier comment many pages ago, So I fully understand the pros of "carrying "........but what about the one big "con" that seems to be ignored or avoided to be talked about. ........again I will repeat I have rifles, but according to Canadian law we must keep them locked up , and ammunition locked up separately from the guns. They tell us that law is needed so that children or other innocents cannot access the guns.
Quite frankly I hate that they are that strict , I prefer to have a 22 with clip close by so I can shoot the **** skunks or porcupines , when I see them and not after I run to garage unlock the rifle cabinet, unlock the ammunition and run back out and....where did that **** varmit go........... But I suspect that there are pretty good reasons for that law , because I would not be able to live with myself if my grandchildren came across a gun and a clip and put them together and had an accident. So then I have to figure that there are some risks occurring when you have a pistol and clip at your bedside table, or in your jean jacket that you left in the kitchen while you make yourself a cup of coffee............is this not a concern ? ...and how do you make 100% sure that a innocent curious child does not come across a gun and clip? Maybe this is the question one should not dare to ask ?

My wife and I don't have children...that said, I keep all our firearms in a safe except for what we are currently carrying. I don't relish the idea of coming home to find someone else armed with one of our firearms. I don't need a law to tell me how to keep our home safe, and from 20 plus years in law enforcement (and counting) I know that people that are going to break a law will break it no matter how well that law is propped up with other laws. Onerous government only hurts law abiding citizens.

Just curious how many folks carry a extra pistol magazine when you carry a pistol? My carry pistols are 9mm S&W shield(8 round mag.) and a glock model 43 (9mm)with 8 round extended mag.I do keep a extra mag in my truck/car when traveling.
