How many HRS on your BOTA???

23,671, 3 cylinder 24hp...marine engine, rebuilt 4 times...

That's about the same as working it 8 hours a day for 10 years...minus weekends and holidays.:D

Not many of us use our home machines like that, however there are a lot of Kubota powered Bobcat skid steers that are worked very hard and sold for good money afterwards.

I posted awhile back..
and now we're up to 152 hours..
It makes me think-- at about 9 gallons every 8 hours of hard work... that means alot of fuel...
when I say hard work, I mean road work ( I have a drive way that is up hill both ways-- :) ), or heavy loader work (I moved 60 buckets of dirt 1/4 mile up a grade steep enough to require low and 2800 RPM) Not to mention moving 600- 800 pound granite rocks.. Some moved 1/4 to 1/2 mile over hill and dale...

Attached are some driveway pics-- the first the downhill from the house and then downhill from the second hill going out..

Later,
J

Did you make the driveway yourself? .....just the upkeep on it will make sure you'll have a need for a tractor for years to come..:D

Tim,
I did not. That would have taken weeks on the 3400...
The driveway was put in during Nov 2007 by a relative with a loader and track-hoe.. and the culverts are not in on these pics....

It took him 2 days.. Well, it took him two days to repair it since it was put in 10 years ago and was left alone...

Just had a small load of gravel delivered today. 17 tons of crush and run. Spread about 3/4 of it over the parking area by the house tonight and need to do more when it is light out.. Some will go down the driveway...

gotta get at least 2 more loads delivered for the road..

Ya know funny thing about the tractor..

the road is the whole reason we got it..
I say we, because the wife told me to get a tractor!!!

I thought of it like this--- If the average rate for someone with this tractor is $60 per hour.. and I have 150 hours on it now.. that is $9K + the trip charges..
However, since I am learning.. I think the 150 hours I have may have been 100 hours or less by an experienced operator... But regardless.. My ROI on this thing is going to be less than 2 years by that math.. and if I look at renting..
the ROI is 1 weekend a month of usage..
A local rental place rents JD 790s for $265 Sat noon- Monday noon..
My payment is only $271 a month..

I know in a couple weekends I have put ~30 hours on it... 6-Fri / 12 -Sat/Sun

Anyway, time to go wax the hood... ;)

When i look at it like that at 40 an hour for 1138 hours on my BX23 that's 45520.

My reasoning was very similar.. # Hand someone thousands of dollars and not have the satisfaction of doing the work myself.. # rent it and make somebody's payments for them.. # or buy, use and sell one, then buy another but bigger one.. and still feel ahead of the game...been looking at skid steers lately :)...Have fun....

My Kubota powered Cub Cadet just turned 961 hours. Just had to change out the injector pump due to internal and external leaks, I suspect the previous owner ran some crappy fuel thru it. Runs like it should now! May need to shorten my exhaust stack top pipe, it really quivers at full throttle. I worry about it cracking welds on the muffler. Cheers Mike

2008 ZD326, approx 25 hours
2008 L5740, 33 hours

Both machines are new, and have yet to work a full season. We don't use our machines often, so the hours won't be piling on to quick.

Pics to come...
