Id hate to be under it when it ''shifts''I was wondering peoples thoughts as to if something like this would be good as an extra safety one while under it.
Jack Stand - Tall- Heavy Duty Lift
I always lift and then bend down and see that all four pads are where they should be.
Just wonder if Id feel better if I had a little something extra under it while under there working..

Those type stands are often used to balance the rear or front end when removing a rear end or transmission or something similar, and to keep the weight distributed while reinstalling same.
With very few exceptions, a skilled technician should be able to balance a car/truck with a twin post, four pad lift that clicks a lock in on both posts every several inches, and has to have the lift raised slightly to allow for the locking levers to be manually released by the tech operating the lift.
I owned two such lifts when I owned/ran my foreign car repair/sales shop.
The biggest advantage to a four swing arm lift is clear access to the entire underbody. Driving the car/truck into the proper position for the work to be done is somewhat key to not having things fall off a lift. Plus a two poster is much less likely to allow a car to fall to one side in the event something goes wrong.
Those stands look substantial- how much are they?:)

I think the safest is driving over a pit with the small entry door and removable grate. I think they have them at wal mart. Walmart dropped my 03 F150 XL reg cab off the lift. Thought I was getting a good deal on tires. Instead, ended up with a dented door. They paid to fix it and discounted the tires.

yikes.. still not a good deal IMHO... unless they replaced the door...

REPLACE the door?:confused2: Why? A good body shop can fix a door ding- that's why they're called body shops, not part replacement shops.

I assume he went in with a new door with no dings.

I'd want to drive out with NO LESS.

besides. while we have not seen the damage to the door... falling off a lift leads me to believe it wasn't a chip-ding but a creasing dent perhaps. thus meaning it would either need to be skinned.. or dolleyed out in order to use the least filler possible.

if I had a new vehicle.. I wouldn't want a door with thinner than oem skin.. or without factory coatings on the inside.. nor would I want filler on a door on my new auto.

I had a door skinned on a thunderbird once. the aftermarket reapir skins were MUCH thinner than the oem door panel. IE.. it will be easier to damage.

As I said. 'I' would want a new door.... if you want we can beat inthe side of your new vehicle, then bondo it up , paint it and give you a few bucks off the tires , slap you on the but, wink and call it good. :) not me....

OK, we'll ASSUME that it was a creasing type damage to the door in ? and that an aftermarket thunderbird door skin probably won't fit his truck, and that beating in the side, (door?) of your new vehicle won't suffice. So instead we'll have the dealer order you a brand new door, assuming there is one available since just about everybody in business uses "just in time", read(NEVER on time) ordering methods, and the manufacturer probably hasn't any new doors in stock, and the paint color hasn't yet been released for purchase; (as was the case with my '03 Volvo XC wagon that got side swiped in a parking lot.... no parts OR paint available... TOO new at the time.
Then you'll wait on whatever while it dribbles into the dealer, wait for a body-shop appointment, wait on the insurance settlement check, etc. etc.
If that is what you'd want, then who's to argue with that...
Me, I'd want it fixed with an assurance that if further issues arose from the damage that insurance would pay up- the current policy of Allstate and possibly others.

to me, it simply sounds like the garage's insurance will be paying for a rental vehicle for a LOOOONG time.. while they are fixing the vehicle back to like it was before their client dropped it on the floor.

I'd expect no less.. and I'm sure an attorney wouldn't either, if they wanted to go that route.. ad end up paying for the repairs and paint and rental AND 2 lawyers fee's.

I don't believe a judge would think it was unreasonable to want a new door, if that is what you drove in with.

new door in.... new door out...

In an ideal world scenario one might hope to get what one deserves, a new door, on time and painted to flawlessness so no one but a concourse restoration expert could tell it had been matched to existing factory paint, BUT in the real world one would be LUCKY at best to get even the new door, hence the repaired door in the case at hand. Lawyers and judges now- and not one but two lawyers? Sounds expensive to me- but the defendant's attorney's probably are better- after all they work for our countries national china store- Walmart, so what if you loose in court because the judge has Walmart stock, and so on- STILL NO new door.

I said 2 lawyers already taking into account for plaintiff / defendant.

I'm not sure if walmart is self insured when it comes to liability, because that will make a difference on whether they choose to litigate ( or defend litigation ).. or to settle, as with the case of an insurance company facing 1-2 legal fee's AND a payout.

The co I work for has been in several situations where we directly or indirectly damaged a persons auto or home.. every single one of those situations either we or our insurance paid.. and sometimes a couple lawyers got paid. From a business vs individual point of vie wher ethe business damaged tha individuals property.. there simply isn't much of a case for defense to NOT pay up.

as far as paint match.. I think you are being a lil to critical on what it takes to match factory paint.

I did a resection on my roof of my dark turmaline (sp? ) green w/ metal fleck paint on my 350, and just RE- painted the entire drivers side rear door on my 250 due to someone sideswiping me.

Both cases I had carquest use the door code and had a match batch mixed up.

on the 250, door was a complete shoot.. matches rest of truck 99.999999999999%

on the 350, I did the roof and made a seam at the 2 trim piecs at the top back of the cab, along the rubber moldings on the sides and front.. and down the door posts to feather.

99.999999998% match just because I did some feathering you can eventually detect an area that has older finish and newer finish.

A lil hand wax after if cured and you can't tell where I painted it.

And I'm no car painter.. I just do my own work on my tractors.

I'd expect a 'real' body shop to do 6-8 times better than me....

had that prev situation been my new vehicle, I would have for sure pursued it instead of grabbing my ankles and just telling them to fix it however they wanted. since we can't see the furture, hard to say how it would turn out. Not hard to say that it's unreasonable to at least persue it.

As an alternative, I'd accept either of the following.

a 'same' model door from a auto in a salvage yard that was within a year or so of the damaged vehicle providing it was in mint / near mint condition.. preferably with correct factory paint.. or that same door repainted to match.. etc.. again.. I do not see that as being excessive or unreasonable. I've bought doors from salvage yards.. and I'd think that would be QUITE easilly the cheapest way to go.. especially if the paint was correct.
