Peterbilt tractor at dealer, service manager says truck is finished ,asked how much he says bring a check, but we have to negotiate the mechanic hit your hood on the garage door driving it in
Id hate to be under it when it ''shifts''I was wondering peoples thoughts as to if something like this would be good as an extra safety one while under it.
Jack Stand - Tall- Heavy Duty Lift
I always lift and then bend down and see that all four pads are where they should be.
Just wonder if Id feel better if I had a little something extra under it while under there working..
I think the safest is driving over a pit with the small entry door and removable grate. I think they have them at wal mart. Walmart dropped my 03 F150 XL reg cab off the lift. Thought I was getting a good deal on tires. Instead, ended up with a dented door. They paid to fix it and discounted the tires.
yikes.. still not a good deal IMHO... unless they replaced the door...
REPLACE the door?:confused2: Why? A good body shop can fix a door ding- that's why they're called body shops, not part replacement shops.
I assume he went in with a new door with no dings.
I'd want to drive out with NO LESS.
besides. while we have not seen the damage to the door... falling off a lift leads me to believe it wasn't a chip-ding but a creasing dent perhaps. thus meaning it would either need to be skinned.. or dolleyed out in order to use the least filler possible.
if I had a new vehicle.. I wouldn't want a door with thinner than oem skin.. or without factory coatings on the inside.. nor would I want filler on a door on my new auto.
I had a door skinned on a thunderbird once. the aftermarket reapir skins were MUCH thinner than the oem door panel. IE.. it will be easier to damage.
As I said. 'I' would want a new door.... if you want we can beat inthe side of your new vehicle, then bondo it up , paint it and give you a few bucks off the tires , slap you on the but, wink and call it good.not me....
If that is what you'd want, then who's to argue with that...
Me, I'd want it fixed with an assurance that if further issues arose from the damage that insurance would pay up- the current policy of Allstate and possibly others.
to me, it simply sounds like the garage's insurance will be paying for a rental vehicle for a LOOOONG time.. while they are fixing the vehicle back to like it was before their client dropped it on the floor.
I'd expect no less.. and I'm sure an attorney wouldn't either, if they wanted to go that route.. ad end up paying for the repairs and paint and rental AND 2 lawyers fee's.
I don't believe a judge would think it was unreasonable to want a new door, if that is what you drove in with.
new door in.... new door out...

In an ideal world scenario one might hope to get what one deserves, a new door, on time and painted to flawlessness so no one but a concourse restoration expert could tell it had been matched to existing factory paint, BUT in the real world one would be LUCKY at best to get even the new door, hence the repaired door in the case at hand. Lawyers and judges now- and not one but two lawyers? Sounds expensive to me- but the defendant's attorney's probably are better- after all they work for our countries national china store- Walmart, so what if you loose in court because the judge has Walmart stock, and so on- STILL NO new door.
