I sold a 2001 F250 Crew cab XLT 5.4L auto with 280,000 miles on it. Only issue I Ever had was the transmission shilft valve body took a crap at 79,000, replaceed under extended warranty and that is it for mechanical issues. I did oil ever 4000 miles, tranny flush ever 40,000 miles brakes and tires as needed. The interior was holding up great, the drivers seat pad was getting a little thread bear from sliding in and out, other than that it was holding up great.
It was a 2x4 and I needed a 4x4 for getting around my property so I sold it for $5300. I ended up getting a 2015 Tundra Crewmax SR5 5.7L auto. In three years I have put 58,0xx miles on the Tundra and if it keeps up I will keep for 250,000 plus miles.
My wife is driving a 2013 4Runner SR5 4.0L auto, it has 85,0xx miles on it and had Zero mechanical issue at all. I change the oil ever 5000 miles and had to do brakes at 65,000 miles since she drives it Very hard.... She plans on keeping it to 250,000 miles.

That Toyota 4.0 is a great engine, one of Toyota’s best in my opinion.

Used to go near 100k. Record is 230k and 25 years (26 years old; bought it at age 1) on a 240D Benz. Ran the previous 220D from 140k to near 200k miles. That was probably the most troublefree car we ever owned. In looking back, I'd have kept the 240D, had the local Benz dealer plop in a 300D engine (if it would mate up with the 4M; probably would) because they had (at that time) a really good diesel mechanic. Car still looked and drove like new inside and out but just got tired of driving with only 65 hp. A 300D had (I think it was) 127 hp: 5 cylinder and turbo.

ALWAYS drove sticks. NEVER wore out a clutch. Now that we're older and more comfortable, will probably trade every 4 to 6 years. Now have two Mazdas and an old Tacoma Turd. One Mazda is very much like the old Benz. The other Mazda is very much like a Bimmer 3. Tacoma just sits and runs when needed, like a brown Turd.

I've had a few automatics over the years but have come to prefer sticks. Right now all the vehicles we regularly drive are sticks. The last one is awaiting a conversion. 2001 TDI that's in nice shape. I enjoy driving those cars as they are cheep and comfortable. 60 imperial mpg makes me smile too.

I must have been spoiled, my 240D had 67HP :D

I still have it, making a big oil stain on my driveway, fuel pump is out.

millage isnt my only consideration when evaluating time to sell something from my used fleet. Living in the midwest rust really starts to eat on things at 10 years and at 15 you can start to expect a basketcase of issues to start showing up. I just had the 4th metal line replaced between 3 different trucks. 2 fuel lines and 2 brake lines. Each failed. the running board on my Van has rusted way from the body line it was attached to a couple of months ago, having to rebuild entire rear e-brake systems, cables, adjusters etc. AC systems giving up, my E39 BMW with 220K on it keeps growing electrical gremlins (but thats mostly par for the course on 15+ yo bmw)

You add all that up, buying at just shy of 100 and keeping to 150-200K was my norm for the past 15 years. current count is 2001 bmw -220K 2001 E350 - 225K 1998 4runnner 185K. Those are my daily drivers. The van and bmw are scheduled for replacement this spring.

We had a 300D turbo 5 cyl diesel sedan. My wife loved that car but was afraid we wouldn't find good mechs out here on the fringes of civilization in rural Oklahoma so I sold it to a friend who loves the car. He is in San Diego and has access to good Mercedes diesel mechs. It just keeps on keeping on. Much peppier than the 240 Dog. Able to merge safely at on ramps, pass on two lane roads. His daughter was rear ended while driving it and he attributes her total survival to the robust car. He fixed it up and continues to use it as transportation. I can't say how many miles on it, a lot I assure you but serviced properly and treated right they last indefinitely.

I think my 240D has 300K something. Interesting note about a 240D is that it does not have enough power to wear itself out. Even the tires wear a long time. The set that is on it now has 130K and still have some life in them and do not lose air. If I could stop it from leaking oil I might keep it. I dislike leakers.

I found a way to scatch the itch and not cost me anything. The last few pieces of equipment I purchased I sold for what I paid for them. I bought a 2006 CAT 286B in 2008 for 29K, drove the heck out of it and sold it in 2016 for 29K. Bought a 2006 Ford F250 with a utiity bed in 2008 for 16K from a dealer. Sold it in 2017 for 19K. Bought a new 2005 Jeep Rubicon for 29K sold it 7 years later for 24K. Bought a 4 year old Ford F450 Box truck from Government NASA auction with 12K miles for 6K drove it for three years, sold it for 18K.

I bought a 2003 Class A motor home with 18K miles on it for 17K. Drove it for three years for vacations and sold it on ebay for 25K.

If you purchase the right equipment at the right price, take care it, keep detailed records ( buyers LOVE that ) you can buy equipment as you wish. I just keep rolling the same cash over and over again, no paymenst no iterest. I make a few bucks here, lose a few bucks there, but pretty much stay even and drive various vehicles for free.

I have to admit the last F250 I sold even stunned me. I thought I paid 19K so I advertised it for what I paid for it, then when I looked at the sales records the wife and I were stunned I only paid 16K for the truck.
