How many miles on your vehicle before sell or trade?

Lot of you guys must drive a LOT....my 2003 Chevy 2500HD is just now breaking 90,000 miles. Should be good for another 10 years at least.

Yep... thinking the same... my one and only new car is year model 2002 and just hit 75k miles... I also drive it on 2,000 miles round trips to Washington and back.

My service truck is year model 1985 and has 165,000 miles on it...

Still have the car I bought in High School... drove it 20 years and only repair was a timing chain... under $40 in parts... must have 300k miles on that 318...

Vehicles are not a good place for your money from a strictly financial viewpoint. Enjoyment, pride & "its easy" is another thing, to each his own.
The "stupid money" they get for a pickup today would make me keep it forever if it were not for business use (write off).

So far I have never lost money on a vehicle... only one new car in the lot and that would be a loss so I will have to keep it. By loss I am not including insurance, normal maintenance...

Always bought cheap cars that were garaged or no longer needed... got my brother a 7 year old car with 4,100 miles on it... the owner paid 39k for it and brother got it for 11k in the Estate Sale... needed a battery and changed out the fuel filter...

My boss bought a new Ford GT in 2006... paid 160k for the car... enjoyed it for 6 years and sold it for 210k...

Commute to my last job was 60 miles each way ... 600 miles a week. Add in driving to band gigs on weekends when I was playing more, and I was averaging about 36,000 miles a year. I love where we live, but the down side is that it's about 25 or 30 miles minimum from the action centers of the metro St. Louis area. So yeah, some of us drive a lot.

I don't mind it too much, though, really. It gives me a lot of time every day to just sit and listen to music. I don't hate that part. :thumbsup:

Just making my point, US autos have not been reliable for me. My F150 broke down all the time, left me stranded several times. Same for the dodge minivan i had for a short time, transmission went out on a trip. My 6 hondas ive owned have all been great, i can depend on them. Just bought an elantra, so far so good.
I did have an 85 chevy s10 blazer that was good. Loved that vehicle.

...we bought a ML 350 new in I think 2007.... God I hated that thing.. Complete POS... More dashboard lights came on than they put on the Christmas tree in Time Square.

Not sure about the ML350........I can tell you our older ML320 runs well. We bought it used from my wife's old boss with 19K miles......I paid $20K for it......it was two years old at the time.....still under warranty. It's been a great vehicle.........my wife loves it. Car was built in Georgia........American made! Maybe you got a German lemon? LOL!

It should be evident by now that miles don't mean much alone and shouldn't be the sole factor in determining when to buy new or newer. My 92 Taurus has 86k miles and still looks good. A little cracking on the dash and leather seats along with a little fading haven't convinced me to buy new. And I've outgrown the need for "flash". What HAS convinced me is the constant nickel and dime repairs that have popped up over the last five years. Car parts age whether on the road or not. Things like window motors, seals, gaskets and the like start giving up the ghost. Leaks appear all of a sudden and aged parts break without warning. The current problem is head gaskets. When I'm well enough (flu) to get started on it, that will be the "straw".

Depends on where you live.
No rust here in Florida, or the entire Southwest.

I am on the opposite side of this discussion;trade trucks and cars about every two years,low miles and get good trades or sell out-right.I am retired so put few miles on my truck;maybe 3,000 a year.
My wife puts about 15,000 between work,grand-kids and SHOPPING!
Traded a 2013(5500 miles)for a 2014(13,000) traded that for a 2017 (currently 3300 miles) all
Chevy Silverado's ,4WD ,dual cab Z71's.I have owned about 25 new trucks and close to that in new cars.
