Saw this recently, thought it would be an interesting discussion point for the group--I'm squarely in the middle of one! Sad to see all the fields getting turned into housing tracts while the cities crumble.

noun: A residential area outside a city and beyond its suburbs, typically inhabited by well-to-do families.
ETYMOLOGY:
A blend of ex- + suburb.
USAGE:
"Housing tracts in farm fields aren't the only odd sights showing up in spreading exurbs like this one north of Columbus."
