Jack,
re:compounding plastic LX277 hood.
I just used polishing compound paste from the local auto parts store. Tried the more abrasive rubbing compound first, but it REALLY makes a scratched up mess /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif...much too abrasive for plastic....had to really work hard with the polishing compound to remove the rubbing compound scratches. With the polishing compound I can take out the great majority of light scratches and make the deeper scratches less noticeable. Afterwards, a couple of coats of wax really brings out the shine. Also, the polishing compound is good for removing oxidation from the painted metal surfaces on both the green JD and the orange 'Bota.
Don't rub too hard on the plastic parts...just use medium pressure and take your time. Be sure plastic parts are very clean before compounding else you may trap grit which will really scratch her up.
