How many TN\'s ?

It seems to me that there are a fair number of new TN owners on the board. Maybe if each of us could take a minute or two to list our model, and perhaps tire sizes, trans or whatever the rest would find it useful. I'd also find it useful to find out what attachments we are all using out TN's with. I'll post my info later.

Re: How many TN\'s ?

TN 65 (plain jane), FWA, 32LA loader, 11.2-24 fronts, 16.9-30 rears, 8x8 tranny, manual shuttle, 3 remotes (two of which run the loader).

Attachments, I use a Woods MD 172 brush chopper as it cuts my path of travel but does not stick out past the wheels so I don't have to worry about catching post and such when working tight around our fences and gates (same reason I have the 6' wide loader bucket). The rest of the main attachments are as follow,

3-16 mounted International plow
6' Taylor-Way trailer disc
10' International Transport disc
12' International Transport disc
4 row International 56 corn planter
7' Bush Hog medium duty box blade
pallet forks that work either on the loader or three point arms.

That is it for the TN, there are a few others but they get used on the 1920 mostly.

Re: How many TN\'s ?

Good idea Andy. Here's mine:

TN70S cab with 16x16 PowerShuttle and R4 tires (10.5 x 20 in front and 16.9 x 24 in rear).
33 MSL loader with 84" HD bucket.
Bradco 611 backhoe w/ subframe and 18" HD bucket.
84" Midwest HD Box Scraper
84" Midwest York Rake

For anyone considering one of the larger compacts, definitely have a look at the TN series. You get a heck of a lot of tractor for the money, and they're not really that much bigger than the large-framed compacts.

Re: How many TN\'s ?

TN65 8x8 transmission with mechanical shuttle, single remote.
Pretty plain.

Here it is fresh off the trailer..

Attachments:
6ft King Kutter rotary cutter
8ft KK HD rear blade
6ft box blade
Various others implements of destruction, 3 bottom turning plow, cultivator, etc.

I looked at a high end compact before going with the TN. I think I got a better deal.
I'm looking at adding either a NH 32LA or a Bushhog M346/M446 FEL. Haven't made up my mind which one. I'd appreciate any info on either model good or bad.

Regards!

Re: How many TN\'s ?

All I can say about the NH loader is that it's great. I don't know how much more expensive it is than the BH units, but my feeling has always been to stick with the manufacturer's implements when it comes to something like a loader - even if it's a couple of bucks more. Also, the NH joystick is excellent as far as sensitivity and ergonomics. Since you don't already have the remotes installed for a loader, you'd need to consider which joystick you'd go with and the NH joystick really is nice. The only complaint I have with it so far is that the float position is a bit harder to get into than I am used to. I've lifted the front of the tractor off the ground more times than I want to remember...

Re: How many TN\'s ?

I may soon be on this list, see a few of these showing up used, I think one in my barn would do real fine. You just never know.............................................. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Re: How many TN\'s ?

Speaking of joystick controls..
How are the remote valves for your loader plumbed in? My understanding is that the FEL and joystick are actually plumbed off the rear remotes. That seems like a lot of hydraulic hose to get in the way of things.

I do like the NH control BTW. IMHO a tractor mounted valve is way better than a valve mounted on the FEL tower. I've had too many problems with those valves oscilating, especially when you get a few years use on them. Of course that may not be as much of a problem with a mid-mount FEL.

Re: How many TN\'s ?

Normally everything is plumbed from the back - and you're right, it is a lot of hose. The valves for mine are mid-mounted. This was the only way to do it because, with the way the backhoe is set up, there would be no way to have three remotes in the back - one is all that I think will fit comfortably.

Re: How many TN\'s ?

The original TN's ran the loader off the rear remotes. The hose run down by the lift arms and under the tractor to the front right loader mount where they go up to the loader. To un hook the loader you have to detach the hoses from the back of the tractor, remove all the straps holding them up out of the way and then wrap them around the loader arm till the next time you hook up.

The new loaders I have not looked over too closely but they have the remotes mounted by the front step so it makes it easy to disconnect the loader.

I do not know how many remotes can be put on the TN with a backhoe but in theory you can add as many remotes to a TN as you want.

I have had a few minor problems with the remotes on the TN, first was the actual remote was sticking and not returning all the way so the loader would continue to raise very slowly when it was not suppose to. The only other problem was the bolt that connects the joystick to one of the remotes fell off and I lost bucket curl. Quick fix was to throw a pin in it to hold it together till I got done doing what I was doing then get a new bolt from NH. Have not had any other problems since then.

Re: How many TN\'s ?

My TN65 is a 2003 model and I believe the "standard" configuration is to connect the FEL from the rear remotes. I understand, from talking to my dealer, that starting in late 2003 or 2004 TN models had a configuration change to move the FEL connections to the right front step. I really don't understand why NH didn't do this sooner; I believe JD and Kubota have been doing this for a while.
I've asked them to see if mine can be re-plumbed for a reasonable cost. At first glance it doesn't seem like a big job. The joystick valves are cable controlled so mounting the valve and connectors in the mid position actually seems easier to me.
