Tractor Sizing How Much Can A Sub Compact Tractor lift?

My uncle was put in the ICU after rolling a tractor while mowing at his tree farm. He had no load on, just hit a bump on a side hill. This was before ROPS were mandatory on new tractors. This was probably one thing that influenced me to go with a full cage because if you roll in the woods, the ROPS might not help with all those trees and rocks sticking up. I've operated for 40 years and have yet to tip a tractor. You can't put a spec on what load a tractor can carry in varied terrain. It just comes down to experience, judgment, proper ballasting and driving techniques.

There is no doubt that my 45hp tractor is more appropriate for my uses than my 19hp was. I rarely find the limits of the 45HP tractor whereas I found the limits of the 19hp daily. I'm still eyeing that 12,000 pound wheel loader.... maybe someday ;)

Axel,
These larger tractor owners including myself simply don't want anyone hurt. There is a reason the lift capacities are lower than your tests. Safety is a large part of it, learn to live with it. Your GC1715 is a very nice tractor and I am hoping you keep it right side up and enjoy it for many years.

Owners of "larger" tractors are just trying to help out. We dont care what size tractor you have. A tractor is a tractor. There is no need for comments like "large tractor owners gravitating like a wolf pack" or "if we have any SCUT friends" We come to this thread because we have knowledge and experience to offer to help others

Exactly. Us larger tractor owners are not trying to stir up trouble, we are trying to offer advice.

The smallest tractor I have owned (and incidentally the one I owned the longest period of time) was a B7500. It is a pretty small/light tractor. Lift to full height on its La272 loader was 685 at the pins and 495 at 500mm forward of the pins and 1003 breakout force. I don't have a thing against SCUT size tractors. They are great for fitting into tighter places.

Most of us larger tractor owners own large tractors because the small one wasn't getting the job done. Now don't get me wrong, I would love to have a SCUT to mow and do light yard work on the lawn, which would reserve the CK35 for bigger jobs and the woods. The SCUTs are great a what they do. BUT, there is a reason I have a CUT, the SCUT is just not big enough for the work I need to do most often. If I needed to always be on the lawn in tight spaces finish mowing or landscaping, I'd have a SCUT, not a CUT. But I need to be in the woods, hauling wood, plowing the driveway, brushogging, clearing, etc. The SCUT might do that too, but it would be slower and more stress on the SCUT, where the CUT handles it more easily. Both types can be a very valuable tool, both have their place, and don't try to substitute either one for the other, it won't work in the most efficient way possible.

I've given this advice to new buyers looking at a SCUT, or really any tractor. If you plan to be maxing the capabilities and capacities of the tractor in daily use, you need to get a bigger tractor. Just because the tractor CAN do that, doesn't mean it's GOOD for it to do that.

Exactly! I bought a large CUT thinking it would do everything I wanted/needed, and quickly realized that simply wasn't the case. It was handy as can be, and did a ton of work for me, but it was still only a CUT. I sold it and bought a backhoe because I need to do larger jobs faster, but I'd still like to have a SCUT for small chores. The loader on my Case can lift over 6,000lbs to max height (think it's about 135") and I still max it out sometimes

I'm a guy that went drastically larger, but I'd still really like to have a SCUT around, so I don't think I can be labelled anti-SCUT.

SCUTs absolutely have their place, and can do real work, but it seems there are some folks who think they need to prove how much work a SCUT can do....even it it might be a task better suited to a slightly larger machine. It's probably no coincidence that a lot of people with larger CUTs and Utility machines also have a SCUT....they have the small machine for small jobs, and a big machine for everything else.

Ideally about 3 different sizes of tractor would be good...And then 2 sizes of excavator too. I moved up in size from what I started with here, because the B7500 was just not getting everything done I needed done... Don't get me wrong, it did a lot, but I was able to take on jobs the B7500 just couldn't handle. Mostly moving big rocks. Not to mention clearing woods.. I cleared the woods with the B7500 too, but it took forever. Jobs that would take a couple of weeks with the B7500 I could do in a day with the Kioti. Sometimes several thousands more pounds and a lot bigger tires really helps.:)

I was gonna say it but didn't, but since someone else mentioned it....

It seems as af SCUT owners feel they need to prove themselves to people with larger machines.

I believe this is because they falsly believe we don't view or respect scuts as the capable little machines.

There is nothing to prove. I have a CUT. But I do t look down on SCUT owners. Why do you feel like you have something to prove? And to whom?

And you are going to need a semi to haul the new toys.
