Been looking for a new to me tractor. Found a MX6000 with 200 hrs (2020).
I've been around a few tractors who had new operators that have burned up their pto clutches and brakes from engagement and disengagement full pto speeds (540).

This tractor is the same, new operator, his 2nd tractor, bought it new. When I asked him how he would engage and disengage his mower and 7' tiller, his response was "there's a line on the dash I get the needle to and pull or push the button.........

The tractor is 3 hours away, so I haven't gone and looked at it. At first I was like, I'm out, but wanted to get some others opinions on this. I have no idea how much mowing, tilling, other pto use it's had other than what the hours are on the meter.....

Thoughts on how much damage he may have done already?

It’s a wet clutch so it’s fine with those few hours.

Depends on what RPM the “line” he is referring to is.
If it’s 500-1000 RPM for 200 hours, then probably no biggie.
If it’s 2000 RPM, then there’s some wear on the PTO brake.

I do think the PTO is one of the weakest spots on the Kubotas.

Only 200 hours in 5 years is really low hours. How much cheaper is it than a new one? That should be the determining factor if everything else looks good.

I have a 2020 MX6000 open station with 1200 hours. I'd trade you straight up! And mine has never had a high RPM PTO start or stop!

Actually, I wouldn't delay purchase of the tractor if the price is right.

The MX6k is a sweet machine and that one with a bit over 6 hours per month average use amounts to almost no hours.

And suspect he's not done much with it as Mr. HayDude mentions. I estimate 60 to 70% of my hours are loader work, so likely much less PTO hours on your tractor than 400 hours.

Good luck!

I think he's referring to the 2000 rpm line - does MX6000 have an ePTO line like Deere?

What weak spots are there with the Kubota pto?

I didn't compare the price to a new one, but it is cheaper than comparable hours on used ones I've seen.

Don’t know. I owned larger ones, and they didn’t have an E-PTO position.

I has (2) Kubota PTO failures on larger Kubotas with 2000-3000 hours on them. RPM’s were always increased slowly after engagement and decreased slowly before disengagement. Mostly used for 4x5 round baling and 15’ rotary mowing

Thats good.

A clutch is made to slip. It would obviously be better to engage at slower rpm but I honestly doubt any damage happened doing it that way.

You’d be surprised how quickly you can ruin PTO clutches when you rev fast, then engage.
I burned my 200HP Massey PTO clutches in just one start up because I started up a spreader at high speed and the beaters were just barely frozen.

Theres also brakes to slow them down. If you run a heavy PTO implement up to rated speed, then kill the PTO switch without slowing down, you wear them out prematurely.

That was my biggest concern, the PTO brake....I don't know how big a shredder he has, but something like a JD 709 has some big blades to stop....
Thanks guys, I'll have to think on it,,,
