How much do they stink?

Thanks for the info. Yes, I have looked at the Cub Cadets. In fact, they were one of the first, and, since looks count for far more than they should in a purchase of an machine like this, (It is, in the final analysis a very expensive and fancy toy, after all) they were rated very highly. However, the bad news is that the local dealer is now out of business. I had considered the Cub gas models but, after research and talking to people, been convinced that the diesels are just superior performers. The field which started with Deere green and Cadet white has now expanded to green, blue, red, white and orange, with the red now leading the pack. I will have at least all winter to sweat over the choices, as I have decided not to buy until at least next spring, a year later than originally planned.

As someone has mentioned in many places in this forum, the Mahindras are red, and it really does make a difference. I am going to research this thing to death because I want my tractor purchase to be the one and only one I ever have to make in this lifetime.

Sad to see a town where there are a lot of good sized places and that once had dealers for Deere, Kubota, Ford/New Holland, Cub, and probably a few others, down to just one Deere dealer. I guess, like everything else, things are becoming regionalized, but it makes thing tougher on the potential buyer.

Mahindras are very nice machines, but have you looked at Kioti? They are very nice also! How big of a tractor do you want? Kioti goes up to 65hp with cab and open station models. They also have gear, shuttle shift, and hydro models. The CK series are new and they are the hydros of the pack. They also come in gear models. Right now all they have is the 20hp CK20, but are adding a 25 & 30 hp models to the CK lineup. The DK's are the "cream of the crop." They range from 35-65 hp and are shuttle shift. They also have a few economy tractors, the LB1914 a 20 hp econo tractor with shuttle shift. They also have 25-30hp LK models. The 25hp is gear and the 30 hp is shuttle shift. I have looked at the Kiotis on line, but there are no dealers anywhere near me. I had originally considered only Deere and Cub because of local dealers, but the deere prices are really quite high, and I was disappointed that their smaller machines do not offer backhoe options, with the exception of the 790. The local Deere dealer recommended a 4310 to me, and I'm impressed with that tractor, (and depressed by the price as well). I originally thought something like the 4110 would do me, if it had a backhoe and a gear trans.. I am now leaning toward something in the 26 - 28 hp. range. The new 2615 is an interesting prospect, though I'm not a fan of hydro transmissions.. I am told they are very easy to get used to. Since there will be no commercial use of this tractor (unless I do some work just to scare up money to pay for the tractor itself), reliability over an expected long span of time is important, as is parts availability. My father bought a 12 hp wheelhorse tractor about 22 years ago, and every time I go for parts, someone tells me I need to buy a new tractor. As far as I'm concerned, the thing has another 30 years in it if they keep the parts coming and shut up about buying a new one. I will still need the wheelhorse for mowing the tighter areas around the apple trees and such, and intend to have it in better shape in a couple years from now than it was a couple years ago. When I retire, I just do not want to spend 8 or 10 hours a week on it with its 42 inch deck cutting grass. I'd like a bigger deck and the tools (backhoe and loader) to dig the big rocks out and fill in the low spots so I can zip over it with a 60 inch or 72 inch deck at twice or more the speed I can now do with the 42. Also, of course, would be clearing snow, dragging firewood, and all the other usual chores, along with maintaining the drainage ditches, etc. And most of all, to be able to send the occasional photo to my ex-coworkers of - me sitting on the tractor with my middle finger triumphantly raised - /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Finally, the Kiotis and Kubotas are ORANGE. And I could never be comfortable on an orange tractor. While red is the best, the green and blue are fine, and the white and yellow of the cubs is a really classy combination.

Lastly, the guy I work next to bought a new harley. And If I don't keep the tractor bug going inside my head, I'm liable to get a new motorcycle myself (or dust off the Honda in the garage) and get myself killed.

My grandfater's brother has a 26hp Cub Cadet compact utility tractor. He has the front-end loader and backhoe. He uses it a LOT. He even contracts out to the city where their big machines cannot get to. It has and still does serve him well. I think the model he has is a 7260 (or 7265 (hydro), I don't remember). I'm sure whichever machine you choose you will be happy! Good luck!

I just reviewed the 2615's specs at New England's website and the new piece certainly is interesting. Surprising that even though the weight was down 600 lbs from my 2810HST, 3 pt capacity was up 125 lbs. Certainly would be worth a look if I were shopping for a piece today.

My 6000 really does not smoke much unless I am really putting a load on it. It is best to avoid the intake of the fumes as they are not healthy for you. Much like anything else, the by product or exhaust out of anything can't be good for ya. Everything and everyone creates exhaust of some kind, and its best to stand clear. You might want to consider something with a low exhaust set up. I was told to stay away from them because when mowing dry grass, the exhaust has been known to start fires when down low.

If you can find a Case dealer, you can buy the same red tractor as the blue New Holland, but don't let him know you came to him for color or you might have to pay more for it. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif However, the Case models do not have the Supersteer option.
