How much do you know about WWII battles?

I served for 30 years on active duty, retired a CWO4, I'm not a spring chicken. Like you I have three national defense metals. HS

It's not a "metal", it's a medal. And it only means you were on active duty during specific periods, not that you participated in any. So how many months of combat/hazardous duty pay did you draw?

I have brains enough to start anything that has the word "guns" in friendly politics, as those threads always become contentious, but I started this one as a simple fun quiz.

Well, the DoD did spend some money on the F-35, the most expensive weapons system in the history of the world, and it is still only marginally functional.

And don't forget the colossal blunder the the Marine Corps Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle, a forty ton floating tank with 2,700hp able to travel 28mph at sea. It was thought of by several generals during a peyote induced craze.

Or the USCG destroying one of three icebreakers by not using the correct cylinder rings (although I call BS on that).

I managed 31 out of 35, but, like others, that was with a few correct (educated) guesses, so I only "knew" probably 27 or so.

What's interesting about looking back at WWII is, the current USA military has adopted the tactics and the idea of a small superior technology possessing force of the losing side, the Germans. Remember the side with the best tanks, fastest aircraft, icbm's, cruse missiles, guided bombs, swept wing jet aircraft, stealth, better guns, LOST! HS

****** was the Germany army's worst enemy. Had ****** listen to his officers the war would have had a much different outcome.
The German officers wanted a staged war to achieve their objective.
****** started the war three years before the officers said they would be ready. The officers plan was to take land in increments to exploit the resources and use the populations for production labor and indoctrinate the ones they could to fight. Start with Europe, get established and build up for the next phase. Then take the next area knowing the US did not want to get into it.
****** tried to do it all in a few years and flat ran out of resources and troops.
Had the officers prevailed we may well have a much different world today.

The US is not looking to take more land but to keep what we have. Big difference.
