I have been able to pick move larger stumps by just workinig at knocking the dirt out of the roots. The dirt is what makes it heavy. You just have to keep picking at the roots. I'm suprized you tried using the loader vs. working it out with the hoe?
I would have use my L39's hoe bucket curl force to get it out of the hole or at least knock it around, then knocked the dirt out, and finally carry it away with the front grapple.
Stump weight is really tough to judge.
