Snowblower How much HP rear PTO needed for a 60 inch snowblower

I run a 50" Buhler with my 13 hp PTO. Hydrostatic tranny makes this no big deal. I adjust travel speed as required to avoid lugging. I dealt with some deep hard drifts last year.
One issue that has come up is the weight. On a slushy day my TPH struggles to lift the blower after use.
Another issue is the PTO shear bolt. I found out the hard way that low HP means the engine will stop dead before it shears. Which reminds me, I need to down grade that shear bolt.

+1 on the buy it if it is a good deal. If you start to run into HP problems, slow down or take smaller "cuts". Most of the time you will only have to worry if you let the snow build up too high, or it gets an icy crust. Otherwise it really does not take that much power to clear four or five inches of snow.

Like the others said...go for it. I run a 72" blower with 22HP at the PTO with no problem at all. The secret is the HST.

ain't no secret here, I can stall a 40 HP tractor with that 60" blower if I wanted to, take it easy and listen to the tractor, it will tell you when its got enough. Will seam real nice if your moving 4" or 5" of light fluffy stuff, and will also seam nice when it sticks out a few inches on the side.

Hi Guys,

Am new to this, so be please be patient:confused:...just bought a Kioti Ck20s HST TL and am looking at putting a snowblower attachment. The rear PTO output according to manuf specs is 16.2 HP... I am looking at a good deal for a slightly used 60 inch 2 stage ...but am unsure if it is too big for my rig..ie not enough HP ...any thoughts?

Thanks

The 60 inch Buhler/Farmking that we sell requires 20-60 HP and weighs 470 lbs according to the spec sheet. I would think a 50 inch may be a better match. Ken Sweet

I have a 60" JRW rear mount snowblower on my 2006 Kioti CK20HST and it runs it with no problems. I usually run it in high gear too until I get to my steep driveway. The heavy wet snow only gets thrown about 20ft vs 30-40ft when moving the light fluffy stuff but 60" is definitely a good size for the CK20. Any smaller and it might not cover the width of the tires. In the real heavy stuff I make one pass then go about 1/2-3/4 of the width so I can still throw across the driveway. :D

I agree with the above poster....you'll have no problems with a 60". I have a CK20 hst with a Lucknow 60`and i wouldn`t go any smaller. Lucknow blowers are built extremely heavy and the CK20 handles it nicely with the fel mounted and i take full cuts sometimes in high depending on the snow. If you have found a deal then go for it.

Great support guys thanks.

Dmace, noted your cab...custom built or purchased? I have the canopy on mine and was wondering about a cab? Looks like good protection from the elements in winter!!!;) let me know please?

It's a SIMS/Cab Depot unit that I ordered with the tractor through my dealer and they installed it. For the price I paid ($1895 with glass windows + wipers, heater and metal framed door), it was a good deal. The unit is a little unsupported though as it only mounts to the floor and that allows it to rock back and forth at the top whenever you hit a bump. Mine has rocked so much that it cracked the seams at the top where the sides bolt to the rear walls.

Now that the same cab is over $3200, for that price I would probably not buy it again but I can say the heat in the winter sure is nice!
