How much HP?

That's a nice tractor Mike and should be a nice haying machine.

Richard:

I have to add, that for haying, unless you are young at heart, a cab is a must!!!

I had a chance to look at a Mahindra close up at one of the customers I deliver steel too. They had the tractor there to evaluate the seat of all things. It was a 65 horse model, 2wd. I looked at the tractor from strictly a techinical aspect and while it was built on the heavy side, it was also a bit crude, with rough castings and poor paint. As far as the seat, I know why the tractor was there, the seat was like a board, no cushion, little travel and no adjustments. I gusee people over in India are used to riding on Camels.

Yes I agree with you 5030. Square baling isn't too bad but round baling is absolutely miserable. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I agree.
Get a cab or a gas mask. Those round balers are dusty.
And if your allergic to grass or pollen don't even think about it without the cab.

Have you considered a Zetor?

They are heavier and have more bang for the buck than a Mahindra. Get some literature and compare the specifications.

I have a picture of a 7341 in the "Other Makes forum" here.

Good Luck

I agree with everyone so far on the 65 or so pto hp minimum in a mfd tractor. For your choices in the biggest bang for the buck category I'd say look at;Valtra A series,Zetor 7341,CIH JX series,AGCO GT series....All come in o/s or cabs with air..... The MF 471 is another choice, but comes in o/s configuration only.

Noone is mentioning the Mahindras. Ive been doing some shopping and got a pretty decent offer from the local Mahindra dealer. He's offered 3750 trade in on my old 135 MF on a $21500 6000 4wd or a $20500 55004wd. Theres some good deals on the 2wd but I really want 4wd. I dont believe I can afford anything with a cab. When you look at the specs Mahindra is an awesome tractor for the $. They arent ugly and a dealer who Ive bought from before and is only 38 miles away makes it seem even sweeter. Im still not committed yet but Im seriously considering the Mahindra. Add in 0% financing and the new tax deal on equipment purchases and I almost say I DO! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I did not mention the Mahindra 00 series, because the largest one available the 6500 is under 60 pto hp. Yes,they are very good utility tractors, but a little undersized for round baling I feel myself.

Personally the smallest tractor I would go with is a 65hp without a cab and a 75 hp tractor with a cab.

This may be REAL dumb, but why 10 more HP with a cab? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Am I missing something?

When a cab is added to a tractor realize the tractor must haul the cab around and also pull the AC compressor. The rule of thumb is you will need 10 HP more with the same size cab tractor.
