How much HP?

Some may feel that AC is a luxuary but not on a cab tractor.
Think about sitting in your car in august with the windows all rolled up for a few hours.
And the average cab tractor has a lot more glass area.
Even if you open up the windows and doors it can still get pretty warm.

Sir, what tax deal are you talking about ? Can you explain?
The reason I am asking is I am considering buying some
farm equipment.

Thanks,

I was refering to the deduction of up to $100,000 in machinery purchases for farmers this year.

My father and I used MF31 Industrial tractors to pull a New Holland 278? square baler and a 8' by 16' wagon loaded with 180 to 200 square bales of hay. This was a 65 HP tractor with no cab and no canopy(back when we were immortal/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif). When I left the farm and started my own life, my father traded the 278 for a round baler and very quickly got a cab tractor to get out of the dust it created.

While he left MF for John Deere in the 80's when MF was in a bit of trouble, I purchased a used MF4225 mfwd with cab, radio,AC and deluxe seat and 388 hours for @$29000.00. Check the classifieds for MF4225 (65HP) or MF4235 (75HP) used, I found at least 15 for sale , most with very low hours.

With your relatively speaking small round baler and square baler, these tractors will do everthing you want and more!

Just my 2 cents/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I had to look into this earlier this year and the rule of thumb around here is that you really want 50hp minimum for baling, and a lot more if you're going to do baling a lot. The local considerations are that it's not flat around here and most people who do their own hay don't have big crews so they can get the hay in a lot faster with a lot more horsepower. We wanted a tractor that could be the emergency substitute baling tractor so we went with a NH TN65. If we needed a full time baling tractor we would have added another ten or twenty horses.
