I can see doing it for free as long as your own kids/family are concerned, but doing a bunch of neighbors as well all winter long at no cost, although very generous of some of you, can quickly eat a hole into your wallet unless you recover the cost of fuel from them. Never mind wear and tear.
yup and the neighbors you "helped out" won't be breaking down your door to offer you money when your equipment is broken! Been there done that. I hate moochers

I agree but there is a difference between being neighborly and an enabler. Users are easy to spot.

Where I am from, if they were charging 35$ / per driveway each time, I would be broke and the snow contractor would be millionaire. On a big sno day sometime he plows my 3 to 4 time, just the basic so we can get out of the driveway, less than 5 min. And once the snow or storm stop, he comes by the next day for a good overall cleaning.
I guess your lucky you live where you do then!

Contract can be had for $400-600/winter with a snowfall accumulation maximum as per the weather network but most people are way ahead with $35/snowfall!

maybe so but they are the official "snow accumulation" trackers that snow removal contractors go bye.

So mid winter they say it has snowed 30" so far and that is the max in your contract; guess what? You get to pay per snowfall for the remainder of the season!

I do a couple of neighbors for free when the snow is deep or wet. Maybe when I retire, I'll get a slightly bigger machine with a cab and pick up some contracts to keep myself busy.

My neighbors on both sides use a service, but I did see the people that just moved in across the street out shoveling by hand after our last real accumulation. I had guests from out of town to entertain. If I hadn't, I'd have fired up the tractor and helped them out a bit.

Before we had a snow blower at our previous house, my wife and I cleared our drive by hand (I thought it was good exercise). A few times, one of my neighbors would bail me out when we would get dumped on. A few years later, I had a fairly large walk-behind blower and the neighbor across the street (The one that would help me out most often) was diagnosed with leukemia. When he was getting his treatments, his wife was trying to keep the drive clear. So I took care of their drive last winter, which was a record winter for snow around here. He helped me out and expected nothing in return, and I was happy to have an opportunity to repay his kindness. I'll definitely help out my neighbors any time I can. I'm not going to go broke burning a little more diesel fuel or subjecting my gear to a bit more wear. And the opportunity to help somebody is an excellent return on that investment.

IMO, it is imopssible to answer this question without knowing the situation and relationship with the neighbors.

Are these the type of neighbors that you NEVER see. Or only see when they want something?

Or are they the type that are always offering to lend a hand weather you need it or not? OR the type of neighbor that has something to offer, or may be of potential help in the future?

Answer that question first, to determine weather or not you will be charging.

If you decide to charge:
I think $60/hr is a good number. Likely cheaper than any contractor in the area, but enough to make it worth while. But I wouldnt make that known. Look at their drives. Estimate how long it will take you. Then quote them a flat number per occurrence. Say you guess it will take 30 min, charge $30 every time. That way your arent changing up the price every time if it takes 27 minutes one time, then 32 minutes the next, etc.

Gee guys, you get some expensive deals. On our cottage rosd the contractor charges $15 per plow, with no limit, and usually your cost over the winter is maybe $100-$200.
