15 hp Shibaura with 4' KingKutter cut 8' brush for these trails. Made quite a racket!

Nope. In fact when they started on my place it was dry so they had to stop for a few days until some rain fell and settled got the dust down. The cab seals in one of the track loaders, the older one, weren't so great and the operator could hardly breath. The owner said the county would give him a dust ticket if he'd kept it up. It was either wait for some rain or use water trucks and haul a lot of water in and that of course adds to cost.

DUST TICKET? Really?......WOW!!!

DUST TICKET? Really?......WOW!!!

In the Southwest on any construction site if there digging or moving dirt there is ALWAYS a water truck and a guy keeping the dust down.....Citys watch this close..... You should see what a mess a one or two acre site can turn a neighborhood into, when the wind kicks up....

That's cause you don't live in the PRC (Peoples Republic of California) where the gubberment has done gone and run amuck. The let too many of them demmocommie types get in there, that's what you get. You know all those kinda folks who have never done anything but think they have all the answers.

I have had sufficient power to bush hog most trees/brush. The problem has been I broke two fuel filters (too exposed) and broke off one valve stem on a tube tire by the brush.

Can you explain a little about the wheels on the front of your mower? Looks like what I need on mine.

KingKutter Wheel.jpgI really liked that KingKutter rorary cutter, but the front edges dug in on uneven terrain (I sure wish they had a more shallow angle "skid"). I had a couple of heavy duty guide wheels form a New Holland baler pick up. Baler.jpg I made an adjustable bracket and bolted them on the front of my rotary cutter.

It really made using it easier, it no longer dug in. When I sold that tractor and cutter, I bolted on 6" rigid castors under the two front corners of my new rotary cutter. They work fine, but are not as durable as the baler wheels. I usually have to replace one a year.

If you adjust the tailwheel, top link correctly you wont have to worry about skids digging in... also have a link to set how far my 3pnt can let down... once I get pressue on the TW I let the 3pnt down until the skids are about 6inches off the ground..

You are right, however with the short wheelbase of that little Shibaura and the uneven terrain in the woods, those guide wheels sure made things easier. Not only that, I wanted to mow that brush stubble down pretty low to domesticate those trails.

I bet it does let it cut as low as possible!

My 6' King Kutter did the same thing.
Trying to get a low cut the skids were always digging in.
I cut the front of my skids/sides up 2" and tapered them back around 12" then welded on new skids.
It works Much better. I can cut much lower now and the skids no longer dig in.

When I had my Yanmar 4220, it wouldn't hold the 3 PH at the desired level without constant attention, so I made up some chains (also available at TSC) with proper length to hold at the desired height. The chains fasten to the 3 PH arms where the fasten to the implement and then pin at the tractor where the top link fastens. By adjusting the length of the chain, you can hold the 3 PH at any height without using the 3 PH hydraulics. CONS: It works about as well as gauge wheels but crossing dips/ditches will allow the bush hog to dig in a bit where gauge wheels would likely hold it off the ground. The PROS is that the chains practically never wear out.

My 1710 has the same system as your Yanmar Gary even though the 3 pt holds. it is nice and works well.
