How NOT To Bank.

I got $95.oo worth of gas free that way. Attendant said he wouldn't accept the 100$ bill for $95.oo worth of gas. So I left
with my C note in my pocket. Cops came to my work and asked about it, I told them the whole story and they told the attendant he was on the hook for the 95. bux. Even the legal tender wouldn't budge the clerk.

Better yet, I went to pay for a traffic ticket and the police were refusing my cash remittance.
Guess they don't even trust their officers. (being legal tender they had to accept and did after much arguing)

A toll booth once refused any $20.00's due to counterfeiting.
(they relented when I pointed out they were refusing legal tender)
Now that booth had a LEO in attendance who threatened to arrest me for non payment if I drove thru.
I did drive thru and he did not arrest me.

RE banks, they cancelled my CC upper limit without advising me and that proved very embarrassing when checking out at Cosco with a friend.
They claimed it was for my protection? , more like to protect them! (note my balance has always been healthy)
No apology.

Another, a bank bounced some 4-5 checks on me.
Employer made it mandatory to have an acct at that specific bank for payroll.
They deposited my pay into another acct that had same last name but different firsts.
They refused to even apologize, never mind making things right with my payees.

Being Canadian I also had a USA$ account.
I discovered that they had erroneously opened the US$ in Cdn funds, and that was when the exchange was in the 25% range thus cheating me out of 25%.
I forced them to credit the % plus accumulated interests as well.

It is not for nothing that we monthly check all transactions religiously.

There are a few businesses around here asking for only credit v. money due to COVID. You put the card directly in the machine and clerk never touches anything.

Before COVID same stores refused credit card for anything less than $10 due to fees.

My present main bank has been bought out by larger banks 3 times in the last 15 years. As I only write about 3 checks a year I always have a lot of old checks to throw away as I buy new ones. Luckily, even now, this is considered a local bank because it is so much smaller than the giants. Banks are like fish.

Me tooooo. thx

$110.00 from some insurance rebate!

A long time ago a guy rear ended me and drove off. I got his license and eventually had to sue. Found a lawyer to take it on contingency and won. The guy who hit me had since gone to prison for something else so SOL.

15 years later I receive a letter from the county telling me they have a check for me for the amount I sued for. I had to drive 1000 to get it but worked in a vacation. I assume the guy straightened out and had to clear his credit record?

I tried to find the lawyer to give him his third. He was dead.

There was a guy on late nite radio, Bruce Williams I think? A financial adviser. I called him and asked if i should sue for interest. He thought that was so funny and told me to be happy i got anything, i was. He then asked what I as going to do with the money. I said buy a new bumper to replace the one that was damaged. Mr Williams couldn't believe I had the same car 15 years later, 1968 Catalina convertible, white with red interior, what a car!

I enjoyed listening to Bruce Williams back in the day... he also owned some flower shops and was generous sending out arrangements to callers...

A few years ago I went to Chase Bank to deposit some checks from my business. I went to the drive up window as I have been doing the last 20 years and after they got my checks they called me and said there was a problem and asked me to come in the bank and see an officer about it. I replied "I will be right in" and went and parked in the lot and went in. The officer had another customer at his desk and I had to wait 10 minutes for him to see me.

When I asked what the problem was he told me that my checks were not fully filled out. The name of my business was Jefferson Refrigeration Enterprises but my customers always made the checks out to J R Enterprises because the name was too long to fit on the check. He said after 20 years they changed their policy so I would have to go back to my customers and get the new check written out correctly. I said OK, give me my checks back and I will go. He went to the teller to get the checks and she said she sent them back to the drive up window after she told me to come in the bank. No one knew what happened to them so the officer told me I had to go back to my customers and tell them to put a $25 stop payment order on the checks and to write me up a new check. No way. Why should my customers pay for your mistake? I asked him to credit my full deposit and I would go. He replied he could do nothing for me.

At that point I sat by his desk and put my feet up on it and said I'm not leaving until I get my money or the cops throw me out. He phoned the police who arrived in about 15 minutes and they asked me what the problem was and I explained then they went outside searching the area for the checks and found a couple of them in the bushes where evidently the next person in line had dumped them out. They gave me those check back short about $110 and told me all I could do was file a claim in small claims court against the bank and they asked me politely to leave now. I said OK as soon as I cancel out my checking account and savings account at this bank and I will also cancel my 2 Chase credit cards. Then I left.

I had one good customer who had given me the $110 check and who happily wrote me a new check and said they didn't even have to cancel the old one because no one would be able to cash it with the new bank rules.

I now try my best to only use local banks and stay away from the mega giant ones.
i had an issue with BofA over 10 years ago about them placing a 3 day hold on a CASH deposit of $2,000 i was making to my account. after complaining to teller for a few minutes i asked to speak to the manager. he told me thats their new policy on CASH deposits. why, so the cash clears??

i ended up closing all my accounts. business, personal, credit cards. all told i took out nearly $240,000 from my combined accounts.

never stepped back into one of their branches since.

i truly love my Wells Fargo branch. never any issues,....none.

ive been accepting credit cards for years. i just make sure my costs can absorb a 2.7% hit for using cards and i dont worry about it. for past year i have been emailing my invoice to my customers for generator repairs and they pay online. much easier, no complaining over costs, no face to face to prevent covid issues.

easier than having to run to bank to deposit check.

I had issues with BofA also.
They had my account number mixed with another, who owed them big, and they would not stop harassing me.
I finally threatened state attorney general action, and they stopped.
Never been inside a BofA ever again!

That is the truth. My wife ran a tennis club for 15 years. Every night, 5 days a week, she would have to stop at the bank after close and deposit the checks. This was 10 years ago so many more checks than today.

After she sold the Club I think for a few weeks at night she automatically drove to the bank just out of habit!

Even the hospital just went cashless...

No more daily courier service or making change and special runs to the bank and it was Covid forcing the change...

Still accept checks and money orders for exact amount and then there is Care Credit which is same as cash for x number of months interest free.

Bank of America had some great family days where the entire Disneyland park was rented for employee families... They also would rent the San Francisco Playboy Club for appreciation events...
