Some people have absolutely no clue. I work at a big box and I can tell you stuff like this happens nearly every day; although not quite to this extreme.

I've overloaded every kind of vehicle there is with the exception of some medium duty trucks. (2 ton + payload cap.)

The clueless usually ask me if their vehicle will haul the load, and when I don't think so, I get disregarded. I obviously don't know what I'm talking about; I only do this for a living. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Notice that the car is still running? This went around the net about a year ago. Wish I could find the newspaper account in my archive but I can't. Apparently it was loaded at an ORANGE store after the vehicle operator signed a release. The story went on to say that the rear shock mounts were pushed up through the car chassis.

At work, it made our wall of stupidity right next to the guy in the lawn chair hoisted aloft with weather balloons.

I remember this photo when it came out a while back. According to the accounts at the time, what you can't see are the 8 bags of Quik Crete in the back seat. The photographer noted the woman asleep in the car and the male driver asking for help at the IHOP next door.

The orange people described the couple as "not normal".

Go figure.......

I remember seeing the details and more photos at snopes website that deals with urban legends. It was real.
