I have come to a time where i am not sure if it is time to service my Yanmar or not. I have put around 70 hours on it since october when I first got it. it was last serviced last June. With my riding mower, i just service it every fall but what about my Yanmar? One of my neighbors said that i should service it every 50 hours of use but my grandpa says every 100 hours. I also have heard once or twice a year. :confused2:

We farm 300+ acres with 3 tractors and service those tractors 1 time per year. Your owners manual should give you scheduled service info. Ken Sweet

I service mine every 50 - 100 hours. Write the hours on the engine oil filter to keep track and will do the tranny at 500 hours (first one was at 50, second at 250).

Main thing is to do it. :)
Beyond that, what feels good to you.

They would prolly run for years with nothing done...but who wants to test it out.

My manual say every 100 hours on common things, but I like to change fluids & filters before manual suggest...but than again if tractor work hard etc. I'll service early for the peace of mine.

Good question, actually!

Grease and such, every 10-15 hours (I also hit the mower or cutter although it doesn't require it that frequently).
Engine oil changes annually, no matter the hours (I've never exceeded 100 hours except for the first year I had the 790)
Hydraulic fluid: 3 seasons (meaning three years).
Front axle: same as hydraulic fluid
Antifreeze: well, I hate to say it, but I've never changed the antifreeze in my tractors. Never had to top it off either.

Powered implements: check the gearbox and top off if necessary (only had to top my Befco mower off once). As above, grease the fittings when I grease the tractor (caveat: cutter and chipper are not used often, so I grease 'em when I use 'em).

what about if the oil is black? I check my oil often and recently found it to be black. Does it affect the tractor?
