I had a Craftsman rider for several years. As "budget" riders go - Craftsman was as good as anything else. Eventually, I broke down and parted with the cash to get a Deere. The difference is night and day. The JD steel is much heavier, rides better and cuts better. It has lasted over 10 years - so far - and was well worth the money. Now that big box stores sell the JD mowers, you can get a really good price on them. I haven't really looked at them, so I'm not sure if they are as well constructed as when I bought mine.
