Interesting Rob! It reminds me of L.Ron Hubbard's KRC triangle I learned it in business management school. (yeah thats the guy believe me I dont follow his religious beliefs but he has a way of saying things that make perfect sense )

"Its difficult to be Responsible for something or have Control over something unless you have Knowledge of it" He further goes on with the ARC triangle-

Every point on the Affinity triangle is dependent on the other 2- One cannot raise or lower any point without raising or lowering the other 2. By increasing ones knowledge of something automatically their Responsibility and Control over the subject or activity is increased."

Basic common sense for most of us but some need things pointed out to them in order for them to comprehend what they are seeing and believe they witnessed a revelation.

I did read one of his books awhile ago, I'm no Scientologist either, by the way, but it was an intreresting read although I'm not sure I accept his Dianetics and his en-gram philosophy. For those of you who don't know the theory, Hubbard believes that traumatic events in one's life trigger a recall later in life if certain criteria from the traumatic event are present. Let's say your house is burning down and as you're looking at the flames a train goes by and blows its whistle. Ten years later you hear a whistle blow and subconscious actions take place and you get depressed. So he sets out to define all your en-grams and bingo you're all well and bubbly! At least that's what I remember of it, I read it 30 or so years ago.

Here's how smart Bernays was. Tobacco went to him and said basically, we're only getting half the smokers because of this taboo on women smoking so Bernays orchestrates a group of women smoking during the NYC parade and invites the press. Bingo, now it's fashionable to smoke, it's a "Torch of freedom" a freedom stick, that reflects women's independence!

Edward Bernays - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"In the 1920s, working for the American Tobacco Company, he sent a group of young models to march in the New York City parade. He then told the press that a group of women's rights marchers would light "Torches of Freedom". On his signal, the models lit Lucky Strike cigarettes in front of the eager photographers. The New York Times (1 April 1929) printed: "Group of Girls Puff at Cigarettes as a Gesture of 'Freedom'". This helped to break the taboo against women smoking in public."

The power of subliminal suggestion is powerful we are bathed in it every commercial we see. Too bad it isn't used in a positive way like for instance to get people wanting to work even if its a low paying job and work up from there and not want handouts. ;)

One key attribute everyone seems to forget is luck, I see it around me daily, personally I've never been lucky , I'd proBley have everthing down to a art and die of a heart attack. Sometimes survival is hand picked by a higher power than our scanty preparations.in the end it's in someone greater than our hands.even the word survival is totally false 1 out of 1 babies that are born someday die.

And if I wanted to contour the American mind what would I use? The first thing I would do is focus on the places where the most attention is and the greatest population gathers.

Why do you think advertisers pay so much for a spot on Super Bowl Sunday?

I'll tell you right off, Edward Bernays tactics wouldn't work with me because my whole life I've been someone who thought for himself, who watched which way the crowd went and went in the opposite direction. Grade School, High School and the military had their hands full with me. Fortunately I had a special job in the military and I got a lot of respect and independence so I made it through 'alive'.

Now ask yourselves if you fall prey to Bernays' tactics?

When you were in the military did you blindly follow orders or did you buck the system? How about school? Teachers pet?

How about sports? Your team the best, out rooting for them?

How about nationalism?

Talk radio got your ear?

All of those things define your vulnerability to propaganda and makea statement about your ability to handle events like NOLA.

I wonder how it compares to the Berkey as far as element removal? Thats where the pool shock i have comes in handy, and I am going to be getting the .02 sawyer filter. It has the ability to be cleaned over and over.
Also you do not want to shock or use chlorine before the ceramic filter, it will have it fail sooner.

I talked to someone who is up on the Berkey, she says that she thinks it doesn't have charcoal inside it. It's just ceramic and we use bleach before using and storing them. Charcoal I think doesn't handle bleach well.

What's wrong with homemade sand gravel charcoal filtering thru 2 staggered 5 gal buckets total cost less than $10.00 and if you feel unsafe with that boil it after filtering ?

Boiling takes resources.

2 sticks and elbow grease , a match , $1.00 lighter ,magnesium striker ?

Sorry, you're not boiling 5 gallons of water with two sticks and a match! Even 1 gallon takes more than that and watch how fast you go through water.
