How should I groove my zero turn tires?

Luke,
It's all in the presentation. Something like this: I've struggled to stay alive on the ZT for 2 years now, but I've found something to replace it with, so when I sell the ZT we can buy a less expensive mower that is better suited to the job I need to get done, AND you can help cut the lawn too with the new mower!

The Husky runs around $5,300, which is CHEAP for any quality mower these days, IMHO.

Both of those SunF tires look WAY to aggressive for a zero turn. The Carlisle All Trail ATV tires might work, but you'd have to be careful on turns. If you're good at doing 3-point turns on the zero turn, you might be ok with them.

If you don't mind, check out post #17 above. The Carlisle tires don't seem anymore aggressive (to me) than my groved tires. They weren't aggressive enough even after grooving.

Hmmmmm...

Somewhere (back) we talked about screw in studs. :confused3:
You could just keep adding them until your "Goldielocks", you get it juuussst right. Not to aggressive & not to slippery

I had forgotten about that. Maybe I should go with the Carlisles and put in screws if needed. Hmmmmmm...

I have to get something on before the grass gets unmanageable.

So I ordered the Carlisle All Trails and will put studs in if needed.

I'd hate to spend the $140 and end up with tires that are TOO aggressive. I really don't think the Carlisle All Trails will be too aggressive but we will see.

Thanks for the advice everyone and I will update with results (if anyone really cares at this point ).

I wish I could have found small bar tire but so be it.

We had the Carlslile All Trail II tires on a cart and they weren't too aggressive. As long as you are smart about how you drive, they should be fine.

Be sure to report back on how they work out for you. It would be nice to have an option for ZTR tires that have traction but don't rip up the turf.

The new tires (Carlisle All Trail II) have essentially the same amount of traction as my modified/grooved OEM tires. Definitely not too aggressive for my lawn. Under most circumstances I think they would a good compromise on hill terrain between traction and lawn preservation.

I still slide down the steepest parts of my inclines. But I think more rear weights would be need to get much more traction (as many of you have suggested). Unfortunately, one of my hills MUST be gone up too and I need every bit of weight up front to climb it.

I have not yet decided if I will screw in some studs.

I was curious so I went and measured the steepest slope.

It is 30deg (about 60)
