jimger, let me go check mine... that part from Speeco looks like what is on my mower.

Yep, that is what came on my mower. It won't stay in the hook...

I found what I need to make this thing work! On, ahem, another tractor forum... where I posted the same question... Anyway, here it is - the Y shaped thing attached at the hook.

When I installed my HF quick hitch I had a similar problem with the top link on my Kubota finish mower. One very quick solution is to not connect the top link and just let the mower ride on the rear wheel(s). before I bought the quick hitch I used to disconnect the top link to mow anyway. What I've since done is remove all of the black flat iron (in your picture) that holds the top link pin, and replaced it with a chain and hook. Now if i pick the mower up all the way it will lift the mower tail wheels about 1' but when mowing the chain has enough slack to float over all my lumps and bumps. This worked great on the mower, but will not work for most other attachments.

See that bracket extender thingy on the top link connector on the mower? The one that's angling down? What if you remounted that so it's pointing straight down? Then, on the tractor, adjust the top link turnbuckle a little longer. Seems like the top link point on the mower should be further forward anyway.

madp, I tried that already, but it didn't work. I think the extra bracket in the last picture above will work. Just have to find one now.

MacLawn

The link on your mower is the toggle so when you go in a valley the mower and tractor will flex.

If you go in valley when rear tractor tires are in center they would be in air (I'm exaggerating some) and all the load would be on mower rear wheel and front of tractor

Please excuse the crude drawing I ain't no artist

Maclawn,
Your RC has the same basic arrangement as my Woods BrushBull. The only thing you will need to make that cutter QH compatible is a 3/4 x 1 1/4 by whatever length fits in the link, bushing for the U shaped bracket. Rhis bushing will adapt the size if the top link on the cutter to the top hook on the RC..
Look at this PDF file from Woods on how they set up a BrushBull for a standard 3 PH hitch, and how they rearrange the same parts to work with the QH..

Thanks, Blackn. I could not see the parts rearranged to fit the quick hitch at the Woods web site - I loathe PDF - it loads too slowly! I scrolled down in the file, but couldn't find a photo showing the Woods cutter attaching to a Quick Hitch (RC = rotary cutter? I figured out that QH = quick hitch!). Anyway, appreciate your help, and I think I know about what I need now to make it work.

tommu - your illustration was great! I know what you mean - it must flex when going over small valleys, etc. I definitely have some places on my land where that is important!

That thing is available from HF for about $10 and is mentioned on the HF Q/H threads in this forum. About a yr ago.

You can order the Harbor Freight Quick Hitch Adapter by calling 1-800-444-3353. Ask for Item #29309, Description "93691 Hitch Adapter". It is not in their catalog or web page. When I called it was $8.79 plus 6.99 for shipping.

Sincerely,

Ikymojoe
