How to bend 1/4" plate into 18" radius?

My scrap yard has tons of short pipe laying around. At .30 per pound, it would be pretty cheap. As stated previously, why not use pipe? It would be perfect and only require torching to get your shape.

I would use pipe but the estimate of $100/ft for 36" pipe was a barrier. If it is 30 cents a pound that would be quite different.

The last one I did, i did not bend it in a half circle.

I used a shop press and fomed a bend about 4 in on either side of the center, and let the sides angle up.

I did this with a shop press.

You could also put 3 , 4, or 5 bends in the metal to male your digger..

But you only need one foot of pipe. Cut it in thirds and weld them end to end, you'll have a three foot long 120 deg segment of pipe.

I wasn't smart enough to figure that out. Thanks.

I suppose I could get 24" into my press and make a series of bends as you suggest. I'm not sure how long the bucket should be but probably about 36" minimum so maybe I can put in two or three bends on each side of midline with a flat bottom. Might be simpler to just cut the pieces and weld into shape though.

I appreciate all the ideas and experience.

Use a hydralic jack in the middle with a chain secured on each side of the plate and heat it as pressure is applied until it gets to where you want it

BE SAFE!!!!

GP,

Did you Google "stump bucket"? We'll help you but we won't spoon feed you.
