how to fix FX series 4wd front driveshaft

/ how to fix FX series 4wd front driveshaft #11
I spoke too soon OR Oops, I did it again OR No Good Deed Goes Unpunished.

Today I was donating my time and equipment for charity, working in a creek, digging out sand and rocks and using it to fill flood damaged areas along the creek bank. I had already scooped up all the small rocks and sand and I was working with cantaloupe-size rocks with the front loader. I needed about 10 more buckets full to be finished. Alas, it was not to be.

I was working in mid range, second gear and 4wd and was trying to get the bucket under a fresh load of rock. Simultanously, two things happened. One of the hoses on the bucket tilt cylinders popped and sprayed hydraulic fluid about 20' onto some previously unstained concrete on a bridge floor, and something popped in the front end and the 4wd stopped working.

I don't think it's the drive shaft this time - at least it's not the same driveshaft problem as we've been discussing. There is no rattle-clack of a slipping CV joint. There's no noise at all, just the 4wd won't work in forward or reverse.

I was able to get it out of the creek and back on the transport trailer with 2wd. As soon as I can I'll tear it apart and see what's broken this time. Axle, pinion, spider...maybe we should get up a pool on what's broken.

Stay tuned, this ain't over.
