From what I seem to have read, the 2 bullies are the 3 year old, untrained horses. They need a proper daily training program. You might want to send them out to local trainer for a 30-60 day program. I might suggest you contact James and Lisa Ferguson from Sanger, Texas Equines by Design - Home | Facebook. They are mule people but are well connected in the industry. I have purchased a very well trained mule from Lisa years ago.

As for the horses, the two are a problem because they have never been handled/trained.
If you want to address that issue, you could either:
1. Find a Quarter horse trainer (they will be tons in around Tyler--check with the local feed store or the American Quarter Horse association) and put the horses in training board for 3 months. The trainer will "break" the horses, work with them and teach them some manners. Unfortunately, that will costs you $500-$1000/month/horse.
2. Reach out to the local 4H association and see if there is a teenager looking for a project to break the horses. This is a very typical 4H type activity. Depending the circumstances, they may even take the horses to their property to work with them--thereby eliminating you having to deal with them.
If/when you are ready to get rid of the horses:
1. IF the horses really do have papers and a good Quarter Horse blood lines, then I would find a Quarter horse trainer to sell the horses. A very common deal in this type of situation is for the trainer to take the horses, put some work into them and then flip them. Generally you work out a split with trainer on the price. Depending on the bloodline, the mare could even be sold "as is" as a brood mare.

Sorry to hear about your wife, keep up the good fight.
I've heard of veterans groups using horses as therapy.. perhaps they need a couple of horses that need training somewhere nearby.

I was thinking the same thing. There is not a lot to do about the general herd dynamic. Now, if a horse puts his teeth on YOU, he should believe he is going to die for the next three seconds! That’s absolutely unacceptable.
The dominant animal makes the other one move their feet. If the horse is being pushy, raise your hand and tell them, “Back!” If they ignore that, they need a strong enough correction to make them back up without thinking the next time.

Two things...
Colon Cancer caught early is a blessing... my athletic, thin and tall sister in law has survived 10 years... now is 43. She kept telling her Doc she did not feel right and was totally ignored... Brother took her to another Doctor and he said if he could surgery today he would... it was scheduled for 7 am the next morning... 3 little girls at home... 3 months to 5 years.
To this day... people say she has an amazing figure and still very athletic... her reply is when most of your colon is gone it is not possible to gain weight which ties into her spirit.
Second... horses are Hay Burners... they sure do look nice from the pictures you posted... there are two kinds of people... horse people and not horse people.
My brother has always had horses... nationally ranked endurance rider with Rush Creek horses... going back to age 12... he also paid all the costs associated with the care and feeding.
That said... he has 4 and the kids have no interest... his wife doesn't ride and he has no time... maybe two afternoons a month... hard choices ahead but they are his...
When he bought his place it "Came" with a horse... the horse has been living "Free" on 60 acres for 15 years... requires nothing... simply forages... the previous owners still have a vet come out every year but so far this horse simply lives as intended and has a beautiful coat... and is friendly much too old to ride...
If you have enough space the cost to keep declines dramatically...
I would hate to see this become a wedge at a time when emotions are high...
It's not cheap around here to have a horse trained and stabled... about 2k per month for the type of all around work/board in California and that is on the low side in the SF Bay area with hay at $18-$22 a bale.
Maybe simplistic on my part, but a solution will come up.

As for the horses there are a lot of horses that do not get trained until they are three - that is normal in a ranch environment - they get run with the herd and then get broken at three and sold. Those are nice looking horses and with a the pedigree you mentioned they are worth some money as a ranch horse. They will not mind the nipping - that habit will be ended quickly once they go into training.
If I were you I would start looking and when you find someone that really wants them you can get rid of the two problems - your wife probably will not mind if they are going to a place where they will get attention. Ranchers and big feedlots really value their horses and they are most of the cowboys first loves - maybe that is why many are not married.
