How to ID class 1 3ph implements

Newbie 3ph question.

If I go to a farm auction, how do I identify class 1 vs others if it isn't identified? I'd hate to buy something only to find it doesn't fit.

Got to TractorSmart and then click on the INFO tab then the Three Point Lift Types. This gives all the info you need. The pin size is the quickest.

I'm sure others can tell you more, but basically it's just the size of the pins used/needed to attach it. Cat 0 being the smallest. If your tractor is Cat 1 but you end up buying a implement with Cat 2 which would have larger holes for the pins than your tractor, you would simply use an adapter for the Cat 2 holes. It's just a short sleeve that fits inside the Cat 2 hole with an inside diameter that allows the Cat 1 pins to fit.

Cat 1 implements will have 3/4" top link pins and 7/8" lower link pins.

Thanks, I suppose I can just take some pins to the auctions and check for fit.

Be a little careful of category II implements for a category I hitch. The other difference beside the pin size is the spacing on the lift arms. Category I is 26" center to center of lift point, Category II is 32". That can cause issues with the lift arm length and interference with your rear tires.

Yep, pin size is the quickest. Take a tape measure or a set of calipers with you. I can usually tell just by looking. It is not hard to tell the difference between 7/8" lower pins and 1-1/8" pins on a cat II when you have been around them awhile.

And most of the implements in the size you will be looking at will more than likely be cat 1 anyway. A 4' bushhog, 5' blade or boxblade, 5' mower, all are most likely going to be cat 1.
