How to lift a 55 gallon drum

I move my fuel barrels with my FEL and it works fine (even on my small BX24)

If you don't have a FEL on your machine ... Why not invest $10 bucks in another barrel and simply pump it from the one in the back of your truck to the one where ever you are going to store it?

I was working and the NAPA delivery driver walks in and asks me to sign for the load. Okay, and i look at the slip, 3 each 55 gallon drums of some such. I ask the 160 pound kid if i should get a loader or does he have a tommy lift. He says don't worry, he has an old tire. just give him 5 minutes.

So i had to check this out. The kid throws a old truck tire on the ground, walks the drum to the end of the bed and kicks it off. Oh my! clean up! But sure enough the drum lands on the tire, he jumps down. stands the drum up and grabs a dolly.

So 4 welders and a operator sit and watch the 19 year old kid dump the rest of his drums off the tail gate, stand them up, (they lean off the tire and even stand up easier) and haul them into the shop.

if all you need to do is unload full drums, gravity helps and tires are cheap. And empty ones are easier to load.

Here is how I do it.

So, you don't. That was helpful.
Yeah I do and it's the easiest way to do it.

That's what I'm doing in the photos .
Most people get so caught up with the I gotta use my tractor idea that they overlook the better obvious method .

The first time I saw this method, I thought we were going to have a mell of a hess!!!! Worked like a charm, even if we didn't get to use the tractors....

hmm ok -- those ideas here would work if the barrel was metal. what if you get a plastic one? I am afraid to drop it and have it split.

The place where i worked when i left school didn't have a forklift and they sold farm chemicals washing chems and teat dips etc the delivery driver that delivered 45gal plastic drums would roll them out the back of the truck about 4 feet off the ground on to a tyre it scared the **** out of me

2 deliverys a week for the 10 years i worked there and never a drop spilt

still not the way i do it i work for myself now doing the same thing but i have a fork lift

but we do store then 3 high on pallet racking now so there is no other way you can get them up there:thumbsup:
