Last time I went out just carried the 9mm. Everyone around our property has at least one gun. Several LEO live out there also

I vote for fairly straight up or down. That way, any accidental discharge will probably be in a fairly safe direction. When I had to drive in Vietnam, I usually hung my M16 nose down on the windshield lowering knob on left side of the truck.... pointing down at the floor.

Down is what I have I have in mind. Plus it would be safer when things limbs vines etc decide to join me.

Another thing is to keep the muzzle covered with a balloon, finger cot, or prophylactic type covering. ... You want the weapon to be usable when you need it.... Don't want it to grenade in your face.

Well Heck, you can just blow them out of your way! I am not so sure that any direction a weapon is pointed is safe.

So true. I thinking some pvc sewer pipe just wide enough for the gun to fit with a cap on one end some foam in the bottom on the top end notch the pipe and another cap for the pistol grip mount it vertical to the rops or fender so it supported by the floor

With a large enough diameter of pipe...the whole weapon can be sealed in. Just make sure the lid comes off easily.

That the thought. Figure big enough for barrel and forestock.

I have the same 12ga, but with the longer stock. Several videos online of them testing them against more spensive pumps by throwing them in mud/water and then seeing if they still work. They usually do pretty good. Plus, not much $ if you have to trash it by carrying it for long periods out in the weather.
