How to Move a 250lb Air Compressor with a BX FEL?

If the freight company is close why not pick it up there. They will help load it on your pickup and when you get home easy to get off for 2 guy's or your tractor.

you could take your bucket off and strap the compressor onto the open loader arms by securing straps to the bucket pins and either cinching tight (might be too heavy) or wrapped under and then around and through.

I think your biggest problem is the bucket is a poor surface to strap/secure the compressor against.

Not probably realistic for you, but I use a 3pt carry-all from TSC mounted via a skid steer Q/a plate onto my FEL to unload freight deliveries.

If worse came to worse you could use a come-along or chain hoist and a tree branch to get it on the ground, then pick it up with the tractor and move it

I just moved the identical compressor with my little 1830 2 weeks ago.

Mine was mounted 5' high in my garage (crazy idea that I later decided wasn't that great). I have a set of 3pt forks I made, and an adapter that I remove my bucket, then can hook onto 3pt equipment on the loader arms. I was able to move my compressor just fine. My biggest problem, was that when I started, the compressor was at the very end of the forks (it was bolted against the wall). It was everything the tractor had to handle it WAY out there. But, once it was moved back where it belonged, I was able to move it quite easily.

I'm not sure your height. But, for my 1830 (which I believe is the same general frame size as yours), ~5' is all the height you'll be able to get out of a level bucket.

If you don't have forks I would unload this by hand, it is only 250 lbs but is very top heavy. Get a friend to help, tilt it back and away from the rear of the truck and walk the pallet off the rear of the truck. Slowly slide it to the ground and stand back up on the pallet then let the driver leave. With it on the ground you should have no problems. An appliance dolly would be perfect to move this, a regular hand truck will work, no need to make this a project.

I agree with letting it sit overnight after you get it in place.

Strapping this in a low profile bucket, scratching or denting the tailgate of the truck with your loader can all be more trouble than you need. Having it flip out over the hood of your tractor is possible too.

Thanks, looking like I am just going to drive the 40minutes to the frieght carrier and put it in the back of the SUV (yes I measured, yes it will fit easily) and then go home from there, walking the back of it out, tilting it down to the ground and then bulling it or using the FEL to put it in place in the G-rage.

...then bulling it or using the FEL to put it in place in the G-rage.

So used to using a tractor for everything, don't forget that a decent hand truck can easily maneuver a compressor of 250 lbs :D.

I would simply set your bucket level with the back of the truck and walk it as far into the bucket as possible. From there, put on a small strap so it cannot come out of the bucket. Using a piece of cardboard or something else, as you lower it down, just let it lean on the back of the truck with the cardboard in between so as not to scratch it. Once it is on the ground, if it moves with the FEL great. If it is too top heavy, use a dolly like BotaBX24er suggested.

The bed height of a semi is 5 feet so this should not be a big deal. Buy the driver lunch and I am sure he will give you a hand balancing it down of the truck.

Taken care of, and we can close the thread. was just as simple to use the hand truck for sure.

The BX's FEL is rated to handle the weight to full height so it boils down securing it properly.
Heres a few pics of my BX23 lifting approx 150 lbs (stove + dolly) to approx 3'. I have chain hooks on the FEL and used a chain to secure the load back into the FEL. The BX lifted it effortlessly. I wouldn't hessitate to try to lift the 250lb air compressor.
Good luck
Oppp's, looks like I was a day late and a $ short :D
