How to: Remove snow chains off tractor

My pair fit nicely in a 5 gallon pail.
I unhook and drive off of them so they are laid out on the ground.
I deposit each gently so to not tangle them and hook the attachment hooks on the side of the pail.
Next I mix some oil with a solvent and splash that on the bunched (more like folded up) up chains, cover with a scrap of plywood and tuck the bucket out of site.

When I take them out in the fall they unravel nicely without any tangles making re installation easy.

Took my chains off yesterday. I unhook the side and center links and drive out of them.

My chains are dry in the garage and I remove them while inside and drop them in the wooden crate they came in. They don't really need any rust protection. Next fall I'd rather deal with a bit of surface rust than a gooey oil coating or whatever when re-mounting them.

Second language I'm sure and we understand. " I want harm to chains." should read. It won't harm the chains.
No it won't but a little used crankcase oil splashed over them when put away for the summer keeps them from becoming a rusty mess and does no harm.

I hang the chains in the lower level of the shop. (bank barn style building)

Without the loader, it would be a chore getting the hook end up the 8 feet it takes. ;l-)(

Yes when you have to move 14x28 (or bigger) chains around by yourself they are a real drag. A good excuse for needing that second tractor.

Yes, that's what I mean, last evening I was tired and write that on carelessly... ;)

The slower they rust, the longer they'll last.
